Wyndham Debuts Homes and Havens

Wyndham Homes & Havens: Vacation Rentals From 15K Points Per Bedroom/Night

Justin Vacula of the Hurdy Gurdy Travel Podcast is joined by returning co-host Darren to discuss Wyndham Rewards’ new Homes & Havens platform, which expands Wyndham points beyond traditional hotels into professionally managed vacation homes, villas, and other distinctive stays.

Wyndham Homes & Havens launches with nearly 800 properties across the United States, Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe, with additional accommodations such as cabins, tiny homes, and yurts expected to join the collection. Justin and Darren break down how Wyndham Rewards points can be earned and redeemed through Homes & Havens.

Members earn five Wyndham points per dollar on qualifying bookings, while award stays currently start at 15,000 points per bedroom, per night. Additional redemption tiers are available at 30,000 and 45,000 points per bedroom, with a 5,000-point tier expected as the program expands.

The per-bedroom pricing makes Homes & Havens especially interesting for families and groups. Justin and Darren discuss when a larger vacation rental could provide better value than booking multiple hotel rooms and how travelers should calculate the real points cost when a property has several bedrooms.

They also examine some important restrictions. Homes & Havens award bookings generally need to be made through Wyndham Rewards Member Services at least 60 days in advance, not every property is guaranteed to participate in points redemptions, and points cover only the base rate.

You still need to pay taxes, cleaning fees, and other mandatory charges where applicable. The episode also covers how to build a Wyndham Rewards balance through hotel stays, promotions, Wyndham Barclays credit cards, welcome bonuses, and other rewards strategies.

Justin and Darren compare the potential value of Homes & Havens with traditional Wyndham hotel redemptions and discuss whether the new platform creates a compelling use for Wyndham points for family vacations, group trips, beach houses, villas, cabins, and other non-hotel stays.

Rough Transcript:

Travel at low cost with points and miles. Credit card rewards bring the smiles. Many adventures, tales to be told. Make and save money, the world will unfold

Fight the war on happiness, pick up the gold. Hurdy Gurdy Travel Podcast breaks the mold

You’re listening to the Hurdy Gurdy Travel Podcast. I’m your host, Justin Vacula, here to help you save money, make money, and travel the world at low cost. Wyndham Rewards opens the door to extraordinary escapes with the debut of Homes and Havens. Use your Wyndham points from various Wyndham credit cards to book vacation homes starting at just 15,000 points a night.

Might this increase the value of the Wyndham program and also provide good options for family [00:01:00] travel? Returning cohost Darren joins me today, November 4th, 2026. Welcome back to the show, Darren. Thanks, Justin. We get to talk about something different for a change, moving away from the good old Bilt bulletin to a different travel platform here, Wyndham.

Who knew Wyndham was gonna do something exciting and new? We discussed some of the Wyndham credit cards in the past. Now we have a new press release from Wyndham. Wyndham Rewards is expanding with the debut of Homes and Havens, connecting members with a curated collection of professionally managed homes and distinctive stays around the world.

Hundreds of homes and villas are available to book today with even more unique accommodations, including cabins, tiny homes, and yurts expected in the coming months. Members earn five Wyndham reward points per dollar spent on qualified bookings with free night redemptions currently starting at [00:02:00] 15,000 points per bedroom per night.

Even tiny homes and yurts, Darren, and for listeners, a yurt, I’m seeing, is a portable circular dwelling made of a lattice of flexible wood and covered in felt. I’m sure our listeners, Justin, know all about yurts. They’re- … travel aficionados, no doubt. I believe they are popular in the hinterlands of Mongolia and whatnot, but somebody could probably fact check that for me.

I think the biggest take home here already, Justin, is they embrace the alliteration. For years, at least months, I tried to get Bilt to do Bilt Bucks, but no. And now Wyndham is bringing out Homes and Havens, so yeah, l- I love that already. It’s a good start. Hullabaloo for sure. Hullabaloo. I do appreciate the opportunity to book these short-term rentals with points.

It’s something my family and I are doing more and more often. My kids are getting older. They want more space and more room. [00:03:00] They’re less excited about sharing one hotel room for three of them. Anytime we’re traveling together with the five of us, or if we’re including additional family members having a home, a short-term rental of some sort just becomes so much more convenient, and it’s a nicer way to spend time together as well because we have those common rooms that are still private to our family 15,000 points per bedroom per night.

This is different rather than saying something like this property has five bedrooms and this is your only option.” You can select properties with maybe two or three bedrooms and use fewer points. Yeah, and this was similar to what they had with their previous home booking relationship with Vacasa.

You could look at different bedrooms, and it was a price per bedroom, and then they had a tier, I think similar to what we’re gonna talk about with this new Homes and Havens program, where based on the cash price, they gave [00:04:00] you a tier of what the number of points per bedroom per night would cost you.

I’m sure there’s some good and outsized value out there. I’m just excited that there’s some opportunity to book with points some of these vacation homes, because I think those opportunities are fairly limited.

Cabins, yurts, all sorts of different options. Nice to see because you’re probably not going to get that with Hyatt points. With Hilton, maybe you get the glamping experiences, but it’s nice to see more options here with Wyndham.

If you’re interested in spending some time outside, if you’re looking for a little different kind of vacation, close to a national park maybe, or a state park, and away from maybe some of the urban centers where we may normally spend some of our vacation time in because it has a lot of the attractions that maybe you and I would like to, go and see.

Certainly there’s plenty of things to see and do outside the city. So maybe, Justin, your next vacation will be in a yurt. What [00:05:00] do you think? Ooh, that could be interesting. But first, let’s continue with the press release. Wyndham Rewards is opening the door to a world of extraordinary escapes with the launch of Homes and Havens, giving its approximately 129 million enrolled members new ways to stay and be rewarded around the world.

From sprawling villas and secluded retreats to stylish condos and outdoor adventures, members can now earn and redeem points at hundreds of professionally managed homes and other distinctive stays, with more homes on the way. Available today at wyndhamrewards.com/homesandhavens. Homes and Havens arrives amid continued demand for vacation rentals, particularly for trips where family and friends want more room to gather and reconnect.

With spacious homes suited for everything from family reunions to milestone celebrations, the platform gives Wyndham Rewards members even more ways to make the most of their time together. [00:06:00] Sounded Dr. Evil might have stepped into that terms and cond- Oh, no. Sorry. I can’t resist- Press release

every Dr. Evil mention, yes. The 30% number is interesting because it’s pretty close to how our family travels. We certainly still spend a fair bit of time in hotels, and when we have like you, Justin, we have reward nights, or we have FHR credits or things like that, we’re certainly gonna use those and enjoy those.

And when we’re traveling as a larger family, certainly as in our upcoming trip to Germany we’ve invited my mother-in-law to join us, so that’ll be a group of six. And so it’s hard to get three or even four hotel rooms put together like that even on points.

And a short-term rental, a house or apartment just makes that a lot more convenient and more enjoyable. Excited to see this another one of these options. For families traveling with younger kids even, they probably are looking for things like this even more so that they [00:07:00] can, be close to their kids but still have some private time.

I like it, and that’s some of the challenges of the family travel. You’d be looking for adjoining rooms on the same floor, and that’s not always a possibility. So having everyone in the same home using Wyndham Points also can be good value compared to paying cash out of pocket at expensive properties.

For sure. And I know some will say what about Hyatt and suite upgrade awards and things like that?” And absolutely the case if you can get a suite upgrade and book that in to start with, and, you have two bedrooms to start with, depending on the hotel and where you’re going.

There could be more value here with Wyndham Points compared to Hyatt or Marriott. We’ll continue with the press release. No two trips are the same, and the best rewards programs should reflect that. Whether it’s a beachfront villa for a family reunion, a mountain retreat for a weekend with friends, or just a quick getaway to one of our thousands of hotels, Wyndham Rewards is committed to giving [00:08:00] members more ways to earn and redeem on the travel experiences that matter most to them. Homes and Havens is one more step in creating a fully immersive travel rewards experience, one designed to meet members wherever their journey takes them.

Immersive, we often hear that in press releases. Do we? I’ll take your word for it. You’re certainly the expert on press releases here lately.

I agree. No two trips are the same. In fact, some families enjoy the routine of going, maybe to a vacation home or condo that they have maybe close to a beach or in the mountains and do that routinely. And our family has taken a different path. We like to try something new and different each trip if possible, and that’s certainly the opportunity here.

We’ll get into the number of homes and villas in a minute here, but I think one of the things that I’m hoping to see is an expansion of this program to include even more options, and [00:09:00] that’s always the challenge, right? Can you find someplace that fits your needs, that fits your budget, and is close to where you wanna be?

And that leads us into the next part of the press release. ” Homes and Havens launches with nearly 800 professionally managed vacation homes and villas across the US, Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe, with hundreds of additional accommodations, including cabins, yurts, and tiny homes expected to join in the coming months.

Together, they offer something for nearly every kind of getaway, from spontaneous weekends away to bucket list escapes. Think poolside weekends in the Florida Keys, ski trips in the Rockies, coastal escapes along the Carolinas, private villas in St. Barts, and cliffside retreats overlooking the Mediterranean.

Depending on the stay, members can find everything from the space and convenience of a home away from home,” home away from home, “to elevated escapes offering private pools, stunning views, and plenty of room to gather, unwind, and make the [00:10:00] most of their time away.” So I’m not sure home away from home trademarked by Bilt or not, or it’s a generic phrase, but it’s nice they’re promising 800 and more to come.

The more to come here is important. 800 isn’t a lot but if it continues to grow, that would be great. I looked around a little bit. We have a upcoming trip next summer that we’re thinking about going to the US Virgin Islands, including extended family, so about 11 adults would be traveling.

And I only saw one property available in the US Virgin Islands so far compared to with maybe a couple dozen that are on Airbnb or, is it VRBO or Verbo? Verbo, right?

More choices to come. Lots of options on their site. I looked and I saw there were featured destinations, and it noted 1,445 in the US, 87 in France, 81 in Mexico, 62 in Italy, [00:11:00] 58 in the Dominican Republic, 24 in Jamaica, 16 in Greece, and some more. And these properties often have a minimum stay requirement, three nights or four nights

I saw a seven-night minimum stay on that US Virgin Island property. So I’m sure that’ll vary by property and location and probably even time of year. You think about your beach and island destinations through the summer or maybe a lot of high-demand places are gonna want a minimum of a week booking for the summer.

Now, whether you can do 10 days or you have to do it in blocks of seven days, is the question. It’s nice to have more options, right? It’s always a good thing, and more ways that we can spend or folks that have Wyndham points can spend them Continuing with the press release, it says, “Homes and Havens properties are available to book online beginning today with select villas requiring an online reservation request followed by outreach from a reservation [00:12:00] specialist.

Wyndham Rewards members earn five points per dollar spent on qualified bookings, while qualified nights also count toward unlocking their next member level, Wyndham’s version of status. In addition to earning points, members can redeem points for stays using a simple redemption structure similar to the program’s hotels.

Redemptions currently start at 15,000 points per bedroom per night with additional tiers at 30,000 and 45,000 points. A 5,000-point tier is expected to become available as the collection expands. Redemptions can be booked by contacting Wyndham Rewards Member Services at least 60 days in advance and cover the base rate only, excluding taxes, cleaning fees, and other mandatory charges.

The applicable points tier varies on the nightly rate per bedroom. While most properties are expected to be available for redemption, not all properties will [00:13:00] qualify.” Earlier they said spontaneous escapes, but maybe not so if there’s a 60-day advance requirement and you have to contact Wyndham and go through their reps to use points.

The decision can be spontaneous, it just can’t be tomorrow. The stay can’t be spontaneous . Yeah, I don’t love the 60-day in advance thing, but maybe for big trips it’s not a big deal for most folks who are, if I’m coordinating a trip across 11 people, we’re gonna probably look at least 60 days in advance to get coordinated on our end.

And so maybe Wyndham’s seeing it that way. The working through the reps thing is interesting. It reminds me of working on Airbnb or Vrbo, right? Where you try to book a place and then they have to accept your booking. Maybe it’s the same type process here, it’s just Wyndham is the intermediary between you or whomever is booking, and the owner or the management, probably more likely the management company of the property.

A little more friction but not outside the usual [00:14:00] experience for those folks that are accustomed and experienced booking short-term rentals. Maybe something more like 70 or 80 days in advance to give yourself some of that contact, the back and forth, the approval, and so on.

I also don’t see the points rates listed. They’re talking about the points rates, but when I’m browsing properties it says you need to call in and then you’ll get the quote. Oh, so how do you book online then if there’s no quote? So it sounds like maybe you can’t book online. In fact, you have to call in.

That would be disappointing. I wonder what the hours are and what limitations you have. That does make quite a difference . I don’t always make my bookings on Monday through Friday and certainly not between the hours of 9:00 and 5:00.

So curious what that looks like with Wyndham and the booking opportunities You might be able to email as well if you have a rep at Wyndham or perhaps they provide the address, or just during a work break and hopefully you aren’t on the phone with them for 45 minutes. Yeah. [00:15:00] Yeah, I don’t like email either, right?

What is this, Turkish? Come on now. It’s a catalog, Darren. You could browse in the catalog, then you have to call in to place your order for five easy payments of 19.99. Yeah, I feel like I’m ordering things out of the old Christmas catalog, oh, Wyndham, you were so close to making a thing of something so nice. They said simple.

This may shock you, Justin and listeners, but my experience is just because they say something doesn’t mean it is that something. Oh. Yeah just because they call it an enhancement doesn’t mean it’s actually an enhancement. I know. I was just as shocked as you for a number of years, but this has been my experience.

Just trying to to lessen the blow in case anybody had high hopes here of simple and spontaneous stays.

But it does look like pretty good value, especially since a lot of the Wyndham credit cards have category bonuses and big sign-up bonuses, and we’ll get into that after the break.

Thanks again for joining me today. Yeah. Thanks, Justin. I know, Justin, you have at least one of these Wyndham cards.

Tell me what you’ve been using and maybe what opportunities are out there. Yes, we covered the Wyndham cards in the past, including the Earner Premier card that released a few months ago. I’ve had a lot of success with that card, and earlier today, Doctor of Credit shared increased bonuses on Barclays Wyndham credit cards, depending on the one you get, up to a 45,000-point welcome bonus, 90,000-point welcome bonus, [00:17:00] and 120,000-point welcome bonus.

The cards also offer discounts on award bookings, so we have an America Loves Math moment. Wyndham points then would be worth effectively more when combined with the credit cards if you’re getting something like a 10%, 20% discount on points bookings that might be applicable to these new Homes and Havens properties.

I say might, I didn’t see anything in the press release confirming that, and I haven’t tried to book these just yet. This is also new, about a week old And the old version of the Wyndham Business Earner card was, and in some cases still is to my understanding, giving 8X points on gas station purchases.

This is a lot better than other cards, maybe with a 3X, 4X multiplier if you’re getting the discount from the credit card with the award booking, and you’re getting enhanced earning in certain categories. And [00:18:00] if you can’t get cards with Barclays, you can also transfer points. Wyndham is a transfer partner with many other credit card points programs.

Yeah, it’s a good reminder about that. I think Wells Fargo, for example, transfers to Wyndham. Chase joined the party. You can move Capital One points over to Wyndham.

I’d probably be more interested in moving Capital One points than Chase points. It’s nice to have different options, lots of different transfer partners that maybe you can, a few from here, a few from there. Maybe it’s a topping off of an account.

Now that you mention that business card, Justin, I’m wondering whether I could sneak back in with a business employer identification number instead of my name and social. But maybe that’ll be something for the next show. An update, did Barclays let Darren back in?

Ooh, but just be prepared to call numerous times. You’ll have to send fax messages and so on. Usually the business [00:19:00] approval, at least the first time with Barclays, can be difficult. I got instantly approved for the last personal card I had with them, is my recollection. That was easy, but on the business side, sometimes they can be stricter.

They also pull from TransUnion in most cases, is my understanding, and they could be strict if you’ve opened many accounts in the past 6, 12 or maybe even more months. But given my success, all the lifetime achievement awards of opening and closing cards, I was still approved for the Wyndham Premier card, which was nice.

If you could do it, and Justin, it gives me a little glimmer of hope as well, although again you’ve had a longer and more sustained relationship with Barclays.

Are you thinking that you might devote some of your Wyndham points away from the Desert Blue in Las Vegas and instead to a yurt in a national forest somewhere, Justin?

That could be interesting, a different type [00:20:00] of experience as I went to Antigua, Hermitage Bay, that was a new location. I went to Calala Island, which was a private island, and I’ll be going to Nashville, which will be a new experience for me later this November. Adding different experiences is appealing, so maybe that would be a thing, although mostly solo traveling.

Maybe this would be more appealing to groups as maybe you’re getting more out of it. I guess you could have a cabin to yourself if you really wanted to, but I would think that this would be more appeal for the group or family travelers.

I think that’s probably right, and I think if you were interested in doing something outside of a city center, again, a national park or something like that, maybe one of these options, which is maybe not a chain hotel, maybe not a Wyndham Hotel, but maybe someone has an Airstream parked somewhere or some other unique housing opportunity.

You and I like to do things [00:21:00] what do we say, Justin? For the show. It’s fun to try something different, even if it’s not something you would’ve said, “Yeah, I definitely wanna do that.” You’re like, “Hey, I’m thinking about going here, and there’s this unusual or interesting opportunity to stay someplace that, maybe I wouldn’t think about or do otherwise.

I did see many options in Greece, and that can take you away from the more occupied areas, the city areas. This can get people on islands maybe. There was a guest of the Greater Philadelphia Travel Credit Miles and Points Meetup who wanted to go to Galapagos Islands, so maybe that could be an option in the future with this as well.

If you’re lacking stuff like Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, you can look towards Wyndham to find some of the stays. It helps to be diversified in the points and miles game. That’s for sure.

You and I both know that having a portfolio of points is the way to go. Not only does that open up sometimes unique or [00:22:00] different transfer partners

earning with different bank points is a nice opportunity to diversify some of your creative spending as well, so you’re not putting all your spending with American Express or all your spending with Barclays or all your spending with Chase, for example. Yeah I like the opportunity here.

These cards that have heightened bonuses, they’re on the personal side, so those should be easier approval standards. Yeah, that’s a good tip for listeners. Certainly my original Barclays approval, the old Arrival Plus cards were pretty easy and yeah, hopefully this would be as well. Of course you need to sign up for a Wyndham account or I guess if not, they’ll just assign you one.

Then we always have to deal with the struggle of combining the two accounts if you already have one and have to add the points in. I fortunately have not had to deal with that but I’m sure some folks have. When I applied for a Wyndham card, it had a field in the application to enter your Wyndham account number, and I had [00:23:00] success.

I didn’t have to merge accounts. I didn’t have a problem with that, so that was nice. Yeah. I would think that they have something on there already. If they’ve been advertising these cards and offering them for a long time, I would think they’ve got it pretty well figured out at this point Very good.

We’re recording November 4th. Many listeners, will be in Chicago for Chicago Seminars at Hyatt Regency O’Hare November 6th through the 8th. I’m flying in a day early, so I hope to meet with listeners of the show, and hopefully you’ve listened to this episode.

I’ve had that fun experience, “Oh, I was just listening to you,” or, “Oh, I recognize that voice.” Yeah I won’t be able to make it this year, but hope you have a good time and listeners are able to make it and listen to your presentations, Justin. What are you going to be talking about at Chicago Seminars?

This will be earning casino statuses and comp cruises without gambling. Oh, I wonder how you could do that. Stay tuned for Chicago [00:24:00] Seminars and listen to past episodes where we talk about cruising MGM, and surely we’ll talk about that in a future episode, maybe in December or January, about earning MGM rewards status in 2027.

That’s fine, Justin, just don’t call me Shirley. Classic Airplane! Bit there, but… Does that count as travel talk? The classic Leslie Nielsen movie, Airplane!, Justin? Yes. Good. Glad to hear that. It is one of my all-time favorites Very good. Anything else?

Nice to see Wyndham back in the short-term rental game after losing their partnership with Vacasa, and nice to see that they haven’t I don’t think, at least substantially raised their prices. Now, there was once upon a time when the prices were even better than this, but it’s been a couple years since that was the case, so folks that have been using this program recently, this should look familiar, I think.

I’m intrigued enough to to see if I can slip in the back door. [00:25:00] And Barclays, if you’re listening, just just leave it, unlocked. It’ll be cool. Everybody’ll have fun. A Christmas gift as the holidays are approaching. Yeah, a Christmas miracle, Justin. That’s what I’m gonna need.

Very good. Thanks for coming on today. Thanks for having me, Justin, and have a great time in Chicago. Look forward to catching up again when you’re back in Willow Grove.
