Rove App Launch, Rove Dining, Instant-Earn Gift Cards & Major Rove Hotels Update | August 2026
Justin Vacula of the Hurdy Gurdy Travel Podcast welcomes Carissa Rawson from Rove to discuss major August 2026 updates, including the launch of the new Rove mobile app, Rove Dining, instant-earn gift cards, in-store shopping, updated browser extensions, and a major Rove Hotels refresh.
Carissa explains Rove as a flexible travel rewards program that lets users earn Rove Miles without needing a credit card. Rove Miles can be earned through hotels, flights, shopping, dining, gift cards, and other everyday spending opportunities.
The new Rove app for Android and iOS includes map-based exploration for flights and hotels, prices, earning rates, and multipliers. Justin and Carissa discuss how the app can help travelers compare earning opportunities and find better value when booking travel.

Carissa [00:01:00] Rawson from Rove joins me today to talk about these new updates. On with today’s episode, recorded August 28th, 2026. Welcome back to the show, Carissa. Hey, thanks for having me. I’ve been excited about this one. We had a release that got embargo, the embargo got delayed, all kinds of delays, and now we’re at the end of the month with the Rove report.
We got it in on time. It’s been an interesting journey trying to package a big launch like this, ’cause there are so many moving parts to it. Very good. There might be some listeners who are still unfamiliar with Rove. Maybe they’re new to Rove. Can you give listeners a brief introduction to Rove?
Rove is a flexible transfer rewards program a lot like you would expect with something like American Express, Chase, Capital One, Citi. The Rove miles that you earn on your purchases are transferable in the same way. Our big differentiator is that we don’t require a credit card to earn these miles, and then we also offer some [00:02:00] really outsized earnings on the things that we do offer miles for.
You can earn in different ways including new ones today. We’ve got flights, we’ve got hotels, we’ve got online shopping, we have Rove Dining, we have in-store shopping, and we have gift cards that are sold by Rove. And if you’ve got credit cards as well, you can stack your rewards.
Previously, Rove was limited to browser. I would go to rovemiles.com . I would see all of the ways to shop with Rove, to book flights, hotels, redeem points, and more. But now we have the Rove app. We have the initial launch on Android and a fuller version with Apple.
We do have both the Android and the iOS app.
And I’m seeing a lot of new things with the app, mainly a map with prices and multipliers for the hotel stays.
We can look and see what the cash rates are. I’m seeing points rates and the multipliers that you would get, the rebate in Rove miles should you book with cash rates. Yeah, we have a lot of new features on the app that you [00:03:00] won’t find on web. That is probably my favorite one that is a differentiator from the web in just being able to explore.
There are also maps, prices, and multipliers for flights, and a lot of other features with these maps in the app. Yeah What are some other features of the app that listeners should know about?
We’ve got the ability to link your cards, so that’s different from what we’ve had before. We allow up to 10 cards at a time, and that enables you to do Rove dining. A Rove wallet essentially, and you’ve got your card linked, and then any time you’re dining anywhere where we have an eligible restaurant, your rewards will be automatically added to your Rove account.
They’ll post to your account within a week. We also are using card linking for the in-store shopping, and in-store shopping that we have, it’s rolling out. It’s still pretty limited, but it’s rolling out on a per account basis. Same thing, once your card is linked, any time you go to a store, in most cases it’ll be automatic just added right to your account.
[00:04:00] Maybe occasionally it’ll need to be an activation, but that’s something that we’re really trying to avoid because that’s something that, for example, Rakuten and Capital One offer and it’s really annoying to do that to try and remember or to even search for offers. We’ve tried to make it as seamless as possible.
Those are two really good new features. And this is no promo codes, no coupons, no receipts to upload. Just have a linked card. That’s really good, and I imagine this would also stack with other apps where you were to earn in store. Is that right? This is on a different network? I can’t tell you specifically which network we’re on, but I will tell you that you should go look and make your decisions for yourself. I’ll say that.
I’ve seen CVS as one example on the Rove app. An example in the release showed earning 2X Rove miles at CVS. So if you were to link a credit card that maybe gave a bonus at drugstores, pharmacies, you would get the credit card rewards plus the [00:05:00] 2X from Rove.
Yeah, that’s right.
We do love stacking of course, and I know CVS, Walgreens, they sometimes offer decent gift card deals, so you could certainly stack in-store promotions with earning with Rove and credit card category multipliers. Yeah, speaking of gift cards, I have some things to say about gift cards.
Very good, and we will get into that. Yeah. I promise. Okay. But this is really interesting for the in-store shopping. Do you have other retailers besides CVS? The retailers are beginning to roll out, but what about grocery stores, maybe like Giant, Acme, Kroger? We have a bunch that we’re adding.
I can’t give you specifics right now. I don’t know if Giant’s on there but we do have a bunch of grocery store chains that will be on there. I can’t name drop until it comes out, so you’ll see. Stay tuned for updates, but the nice thing is you can add your credit cards now, and then once it rolls out, it’ll be a [00:06:00] nice bonus.
Yeah. Absolutely. Okay. Let’s move on to Rove Dining. Restaurants partnering with Rove or Rove partnering with restaurants, you can earn bonus Rove miles going to certain merchants. Yeah. I’m stoked about Rove Dining. I’ve been enrolled in United Mileage Plus Dining or American, whatever forever.
But it’s not something I ever think about, and I obviously value a Rove mile much more highly than those sorts of programs. So I’m glad that we have that. And of course, now that I’m based in New York, and New York is one of our strongest cities that we’ve launched Rove Dining in I’m happy to see “Oh, yeah, there they are. They’re showing up. They’re just being added straight to my account.” If you take a look at our multipliers, they’re outrageous compared to anybody else. We’ve got up to 12X on dining, and then if you pair that, for example, with the Amex Gold card, that’s another 4X.
That’s crazy. That’s a crazy return on your spending for dining. I like it. Stacking with American Express Resy [00:07:00] credits, Chase Sapphire exclusive tables, and much more. Yeah. Absolutely The Rove dining locations, are these mainly larger chains, individual restaurants, maybe a mix? It’s a mix actually, and in our press release we’re like, “With more rolling out soon,” and I cannot emphasize enough how many more and how soon.

We also have gift cards, as we alluded to. Gift cards that earn miles instantly. On your website you noted that sometimes there would be a delay in getting the Rove miles, but now certain gift cards will have that instant reward.
Coming from the points and miles community, one of the biggest pain points that I’ve heard is about giftcards.com and about the length of posting time, because we say up to 100 days, and that’s obviously different from Rakuten, which gives you a quarterly payout.
I think it’s a little bit nebulous to have it like that, and so they tend to get antsy. 100 days is a long time, don’t get me wrong. Having us have our own gift [00:08:00] card marketplace essentially and selling the cards ourselves allows us to cut out any middlemen, give higher multipliers and then because we’re selling them we can post your miles the second you buy it.
So that’s really cool for top-ups, but also just if you have a really good business class redemption that you all of a sudden have found and you need the miles and you don’t wanna book a hotel, you don’t need a hotel, whatever, a gift card can be an excellent option. You mentioned that you’re selling the gift cards, or is it just the partnership with the merchants that sell them?
It’s us. Oh, very interesting. Okay. So you’re taking over, and that’s what’s allowing the points to post instantly. Yeah. To be clear, we do have still a relationship with giftcards.com, but you’ll see there’s a differentiator on the site and on the app. If it’s just through giftcards.com, for example, it’ll say online, and that takes you, it’ll be a link to their site.
But if it says gift cards, then that’s us, and it’s, you’ll see it’s like entirely populated on Rove’s website. We’re taking, your card details and then emailing you the card. GiftCards.com unfortunately on the decline, as we mentioned on last month’s episode. The earning rates [00:09:00] have gone down.
The payouts have taken longer. What’s the current situation with GiftCards.com at the end of August 2026? For us it’s a little bit better. We had and continue to have an elevated promotional rate on Visa gift cards with GiftCards.com. It’s at 3.2x, which is, basically pre-deval rates.
But it’s been extended through mid-September, so that’s still a really good option if you’re trying to get Visa cards, ’cause we don’t have those yet through us. We’ll see how if anything shifts, with us also having gift cards available. I don’t know. We’ll see. Is that just the Visa?
What about the MasterCard gift cards? Just the Visa. Just the Visa. Ugh, more, more tough times for some. Hard life. Yep, yep. Good. Good to hear a lot of updates. We also have loyalty eligible rates expanding, Rove Hotels getting a major update, and new Rove shopping extensions. We’ll discuss that after [00:10:00] the break.

We’re back to today’s show with Carissa Rawson from Rove [00:12:00] talking about major updates in the month of August. Thanks again for coming on today Yeah, I’m glad to be here. We have Rove Hotels getting a major update.
According to the press release, the new hotel experience includes better Rove Miles multipliers, tens of thousands of additional properties, a major expansion of loyalty eligible rates, clearer bed information, and more detailed property and room descriptions. Yeah. The hotel updates have been interesting.
We’ve taken a long time to redesign the hotels in general ’cause we got a lot of feedback. People are like, how many beds are in the room?” And that is a key piece of information anytime you’re traveling, but it’s really difficult to gather that which is weird.
You wouldn’t expect that. We spent a lot of time figuring out a redesign, figuring out how to get better information to everybody, square footage, hopefully better photos room occupancies, which we already had. In terms of loyalty eligible, that’s another piece of feedback.
Ever since we’ve [00:13:00] launched, it’s always been subject to room availability, but it hasn’t been as many properties as we had originally thought when we first launched, and so we’ve taken care of that. We’ve gotten basically every single chain that we support, every single room or, you know, hotel.
I- it’s subject to if they’ve sold out of those rates, they’ve sold out of those rates, but they’re at least now available, and not just entirely missing from the map.
Maybe more opportunities with Hyatt as people are looking to book and get their qualifying nights for Globalist status and use their membership benefits.
Yeah, absolutely. Other chains in there too, maybe Hilton, Marriott, and more? Yeah. We actually talked about even adding a bunch more. It just becomes at what point is the juice worth the squeeze? If there’s a lot of smaller chains, it’s a lot of lift to add those ones.
So is it worth, a chain that maybe only has 60 properties? I don’t know. It’s something that we’re talking about. Tens of thousands of hotels, lots to choose from. Yeah, plenty. [00:14:00] And now we’ve got hundreds of thousands on our site anyway. So many, especially outside of the United States.
Yeah. Global Rove. You could find some of those, what was it? Uzbekistan properties, right? It was definitely a trip, and yes, we could. We could find Uzbekistan hotels, but that was a, a hot, sweaty experience that I had.
Very good. A major expansion of loyalty eligible rates. Rove is also significantly expanding the availability of loyalty eligible hotel rates.
Loyalty eligible bookings allow members to earn Rove miles while remaining eligible for applicable benefits from the hotel’s own loyalty programs.
We’ve already had loyalty eligible, but just making sure that all of the properties that people are searching for are available, ’cause I know how annoyed it makes me when I’m, searching San Diego and I see two loyalty eligible properties. I’m like, “Okay,” I’ve lived in one of these, I know it participates in the Hyatt program. So it’s a lot better now. More [00:15:00] options, always good. Maybe some chains like IHG, Wyndham, and much more.
I know the new Wyndham credit card, I got the Wyndham Premier, and there are some bonuses if you stay a certain amount of nights per year, so that could be an interesting way to stack as well. Yeah, agreed.
We have Rove new shopping extensions. According to the press release, Rove is also introducing an entirely new Chrome extension.
Yeah.
A Safari extension, and a mobile Safari extension connected to the new Rove iOS app.
We’ve had the Chrome extension for a while, but we’ve really just updated it to have more offers, and we’ve debuted the Safari one ’cause that is one of the asks that we get a lot.
And then the mobile Safari extension as a, a dedicated Android user, I had to actually ask for help on how to talk to people about that because did you know, Justin, I don’t, I guess you have an iPhone too, as well, an Android, but- Yeah, no, Android. I got the Galaxy 26 Ultra. I thought you also had an iPhone in your army.
[00:16:00] I also have an iPhone, but the main phone is definitely an Android. Okay. I didn’t know, ’cause there’s no Chrome mobile extensions. I didn’t know that in Safari, in your web browser on your iPhone, there’s extensions, but there are, and we have them now, so if people wanna do shopping on mobile Safari, that’s an option, too.
According to the release, the new extensions make it easier to discover Rove miles earning opportunities while shopping across desktop and mobile devices with thousands of new stores and higher earning opportunities. Yep, absolutely.
Lots of back to school shopping, I imagine, for some listeners, so maybe you can earn Rove miles in addition to your back to school shopping.
Yeah, I think next year we’re gonna try and do some promos around some states have those tax-free shopping weekends or week days. I think that’d be cool, so that people are able to stack with tax-free for back to school shopping. Staples is calling this the most wonderful time of the year.
I thought it was Christmas, [00:17:00] but now I guess there’s some competition. Are they calling it the most wonderful time of the year? They are indeed. I shared a sticker from the store on my Instagram page. That’s funny.
Very good. Lots in the new update with the app. I think that can be easier for users rather than just using the browser-based. More intuitive on the app, better text display. What are some other things that you like about the app? Honestly, I think that’s a lot of it. We’re adding an addition, this app launch is just version one, but other things that we’re gonna be adding on that will, primarily be app-based.
For example the ability to have a wishlist for properties. That’s something that I’ve been really looking for and looking forward to. I have a lot of aspirational things I wanna do. And then we have more things coming out that we’re developing that will live primarily on the app.
I’m looking at the front page of the app, and it’s showing recent activity, [00:18:00] miles available, pending miles, and then getting started. This says, “Link your first card,” “Download the app,” so the app is telling me to download the app. I obviously have done that. “Download browser extension,” “Add Rove Shopping,” “Look for your first flight,” “Refer a friend.”
This could be helpful because some people new to Rove will ask, “Where do I start? How do I start earning?” And now the app is giving you those suggestions.
We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for people to get started with Rove. Although we have a lot of very high-speed users, we are also trying to cater to people who maybe don’t even have a credit card, although that is blasphemous so that they don’t have to know.
They can just click right through, and it’s set it, forget it, really easy, and you’re basically maximizing. So that’s a lot of where the thought was behind the app. High-speed users, I like it. Yeah. We used to hear a lot about high-speed internet, but now all internet might be high speed.
Probably. Maybe not at my parents’ house. They still live out in the [00:19:00] sticks .
We see top cash deals and top miles deals showing in the Android Rove app. I’m seeing St. Louis $128, Boston $123. Top miles deals, Detroit nonstop from 7.5k, Edinburgh nonstop 23.3k, Doha from 35k miles, and Atlanta 6k. So if you don’t know where you wanna go, the app can give you several suggestions. Yeah, I really like that feature.
Featured deal, refer a friend. Give 500 miles, get 500 miles plus 10% of whatever they earn. Right now, the current referral bonus ends at the end of the month, but we’ll be extending it, so worry not everybody.
Shop and earn miles, I’m seeing StubHub 6.5 miles. That can stack with the Chase Sapphire Reserve StubHub credit. Newegg up to 1.1x, Home [00:20:00] Depot up to 5.2x, Best Buy up to 6.5x, and so on. Yeah, we have tons of really good ones. If you go into the shopping, obviously I’m gonna just point to gift cards.
I like to look at it, for example, not that I would ever say we need to do a, a Delta gift card, but we sell Delta gift cards now on Rove. And let me see. I think it’s 2X. But then if you’re buying it through us, and you’ve got the right card, you can actually end up earning more than you would if you just bought it directly from Delta, which is pretty cool.
The Rove dining, I’m seeing Saffron Indian Kitchen in Philadelphia earn 7X miles. Taqueria in Cherry Hill, 7X miles. 7X, is that some of the standards of the Rove dining? No, I think that’s just your area. I’m on the New York map, right? And I’ve got 11, 10, 10, 10, eight, 10, nine, nine, seven, seven, seven, nine, nine, eight.
Oh. Yeah. It’s our same philosophy, where we’re passing along as much as we possibly can. All of these restaurants are [00:21:00] actually on a dynamic pricing scheme based on the commission that they pass us. So we always give you the most that we can give based on commission, and it’ll vary.
If it’s a Tuesday at 3:00, you’ll probably get more than if it’s Friday night. Ooh, it could be like the Citi 666 Dining promotion, huh? Sorry, I hate that pro- but yes. But yeah. The Citi Nights TM. Yeah. Stupid. But yeah, like that.
Any other things that listeners should know? I think in terms of this launch it’s been a labor of love, and I hope that is what everybody sees.
But it’s not even close to the end of what we’re doing. We have so many more things already working on, designing, launching, contracting. We have a million more things just lined up and ready to go
lots to appreciate with the August update here with Rove. Yeah, it’s good stuff. Big things.
Any upcoming in-person events for Rove?
Yeah this weekend, we’re recording on August [00:22:00] 28th, so the 29th and the 30th I’ll be flying to Texas for both an Austin and a Dallas meetup. I think that might be all I have scheduled for now because I will freely tell you that I am very tired. And so I might take a little bit of a pause, maybe a month break before I do another in-person meetup just because it’s been a lot of flying all over the country.
