Justin Vacula of the Hurdy Gurdy Travel Podcast welcomes Carissa from Rove to discuss the new “It Pays to Chase More Rove Miles” promotion, running May 21 through May 31, 2026.

Louis a few days ago before our recording today on May 21st. Yeah, we had issues with the weather and got stuck extra time in St. Louis, so that was interesting.
Yes, we also ended up at the same hotel, the Hyatt Select, near the airport. And that’s not the first time. Do you remember when we met in the Rio accidentally in the lobby? Yes, that’s right, walking through Rio. Yeah. We were both there on Hyatt stays. But it was a good weekend for Rove and others who came out.
We had about a dozen people on different days for social events, and we used many of the Chase Dining credits. That was a nice benefit, and we went to Hilton restaurants as well using Hilton credits. Yeah, I had a great time. It was very nice to be with a group of people for whom it was a priority, yeah, I already know it’ll credit over here. [00:02:00] Great, I’m coming
Very good. Let’s talk about the new promotion, It Pays to Chase More Rove Miles. This is from 9:00 AM on Thursday, May 21st, so this has already started for listeners, and it goes through 11:59 PM Eastern on Sunday, May 31st. During that time, members can earn elevated miles through Rove Shopping with select merchants offering up to 15X Rove miles per dollar spent.
We had talked about taking advantage of some hype around new benefits offered for Chase card members, and because we’re such a small team, we were able to make it happen very quickly.
It’s called the It Pays to Chase More Rove Miles promotion, and it is a bit of a play on words. Chase came out with a new benefit. No notice, no announcement, no launch but a new benefit started applying to Chase cards through the end of the year, and it’s applicable to the Chase [00:03:00] Sapphire line of cards, so the personal and the business, and it’s also applicable to the Chase Freedom line of cards.
It gives you, or cardholders, 10X Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on up to $1,500 monthly on Paze retailers, P-A-Z-E. I’ve seen a lot of hype around it, and I was like that’s interesting. That presents a really nice stacking opportunity.” So we took a look at who Paze worked with, and Paze is a checkout system like when you see I don’t know, Afterpay, Klarna. Paze is like that. It’s a much smaller version of it. I went through the Paze directory, their merchant directory, and I looked to see if we had any overlap in terms of our shopping, and we do. I’ve seen a lot of hype around is StubHub.
So for our new promotion, we target a lot of those Paze merchants because you can stack Rove Rove Shopping, clicking through our shopping portal, and then also using your Chase card. There’s nothing to activate or anything like that. And you can end up getting some really good rewards.
For example, StubHub, is 10X Chase points, and then we have it boosted up to 9X Rove miles per dollar [00:04:00] spent. That’s a really incredible return on any StubHub purchases you’re doing. And the Chase Sapphire Reserve also has that StubHub credit, so you would be able to get that Rove bonus stacking with potentially PAZE, P-A-Z-E.
And stacking with the Chase Sapphire Reserve $150 twice-a-year benefit. I already used my StubHub credit, so I’m looking just to use this PAZE one. I’m still trying to find an angle for maximizing the $1,500 a month because that’s an incredibly lucrative return if I can figure out something to do.
But there’s also a hotel booking bonus arm to the It Pays to Chase More Rove Miles promo, and that’s for people who haven’t booked a Rove hotel with us yet. For some hotel bookers, if you spend $200, you can get 1,000 Rove miles and then if you spend $500 you’ll get 2,500 Rove miles.
There’s two prongs to this promotion. I think for me, obviously, the more interesting one is, as a Chase Sapphire Reserve and Preferred cardholder, how can I really maximize this PAZE benefit? [00:05:00] I believe Newegg is on the- Yeah … PAZE, P-A-Z-E, platform, and Newegg often sells discounted gift cards.
And of course you could just buy computer parts, upgrade your PC, build a new PC and get a rebate on it. We have Newegg on Rove, and I wanted to have it on there, but our merchant terms specifically exclude gift card purchases. You could always try. Maybe some of them would post. Maybe they won’t, but if they do then that’s a bonus. Yeah, that’s true.
I see others, Peet’s Coffee 15x Rove. City Experiences, that’s C-I-T-Y, City Experiences 9x.
Fanatics 9x. Nike 8x. GoDaddy 8x. Jared Jewelers 7x. Omaha Steaks 7x. The Outnet, never heard of that one, 5x. Farfetch, not to be confused with the Pokémon- … 4, 5x. Personalization Mall 4x. Sephora 4x. Etsy 3x. Chewy [00:06:00] 3x. GNC 3x. Kay Jewelers 2x. And Pet Supermarket 1x. Most of those are PAZE ’cause that’s what we’re trying to target.
Peet’s Coffee is not on PAZE. GoDaddy is also not on their merchant directory, but I did see on GoDaddy’s website they say that they have a partnership. So if anybody’s looking to do some web hosting, it’s definitely worth testing. Good. And you mentioned Rove is a portal where you can do shopping, get bonus Rove miles.
You can also book hotels, book flights. This is an all-in-one platform. You could use your credit cards to make purchases, and you’re earning Rove miles in addition to the credit card rewards. Or if you’re a listener for some reason that doesn’t have any credit cards, they’re opposed to credit, they’re building credit, you can also use a debit card on Rove and still get the Rove miles.
I bet you Dave Ramsey would really like Rove. Don’t you know, if you move someone in who completely pays your rent and you’ve [00:07:00] been together for six years, but they want you to be debt-free, then you should break up with them because you deserve better, princess. That was the recent Dave Ramsey clip that I responded to.
Seriously? Seriously. Wow. It even got worse than that as it went on even longer. I like to joke, but it’s just bad financial advice. That’s all. It’s just hard to listen and not laugh really, but to get back to the discussion- … Rove is also giving first-time hotel bookers a chance to earn even more.
Members making their first eligible hotel booking through Rove can earn 1,000 bonus Rove miles when they spend 200 or more with code PAYS200, 2,500 bonus Rove miles when they spend 500 or more with code PAYS500. Yeah, I I really like those first-time hotel booking bonuses. I originally back in the day, I was trying to do for people who are repeat bookers.
We don’t have the infrastructure yet. Maybe one day, but at least if you haven’t jumped into Rove yet, there’s a nice little bonus. Some other Rove [00:08:00] updates. The office is in progress, is that right? The new office. Do you know what? I am in Scotland today, and I’m so annoyed because we got the keys to the office yesterday, and they hustled and built all the furniture and moved in yesterday, and I wasn’t there.
And I’m really sad about that. The travel hacker’s dilemma strikes again. Travel interfering with other travel. I know. It looks really nice, I did have another member of my team snag me a desk, so at least I’m not stuck in the bathroom or something. The office is in its very first iteration.
It’s basic right now. It’s just desks and chairs, but furnishings are on route. And I am most excited about, because we’ve been promised unlimited I don’t know if you’ve heard of a Bevy machine, but a Bevy gives you sparkling water and caffeinated water and vitamin water, and it’s this unlimited cold fizzy drink machine.
So I’m hyped. That’s a bonus. And your new employee, Gigi, who I met- … in Willow Grove, PA for my meetup, she’s been posting many reels as well. [00:09:00] Yeah, she’s great. She’s great with socials. I know she posts about the Willow Grove meetup. She’ll might be coming to some future ones. We’ll see. There’s a meetup in Ohio in August that I’ve already asked her she’ll come to, so we’ll see. Any other upcoming Rove events that listeners can attend? Yeah. On June 5th, we have an event for the Rove Insiders Facebook group.

I’ll be there, and then unusually, basically all of the Rove team will be there as well, including some of our overseas people. And unfortunately or fortunately, I’ll be in Vermont because the travel hacker’s dilemma strikes again. What a shame. What are you doing in Vermont? Ooh, I’m using my Chase [00:10:00] The Edit credit.
It’s normally $250, but they added a bonus 250 for select IHG properties. I’m gonna be staying at a place called Kimpton Taconic in Vermont that same time. Oh, I can’t fault you that. That sounds really nice. 500 off that booking, which almost took the price down to zero, including breakfast, food credits, and more.
Yeah, that’s fantastic. It’s the race to use all these Chase benefits going to all these different destinations. Certainly openness to experience helps in this hobby. Yeah, for many years my travel had focused around what was available at what category, so if it was a category five and I wanted to stay at a Ritz-Carlton, I wanted to have the experience, so I went to Azerbaijan ’cause that’s where they had a category five Ritz-Carlton. I had a great time. Follow the deals. Yeah.
Although some might say, “Oh, you’re going out of your way to use these credits,” but I can make it into a fun experience, see a new location, go to [00:11:00] a different state. I don’t think I’ve ever been in Vermont unless it was a quick stop during a cruise. That’s the nature of points and miles is you really just have to be very flexible, and you’re right, being willing to experience.
Because if you come into this hobby or, this career as someone who says, “I need to be in this place at this time with this many people, and I have no room for shenanigans,” you’re gonna be miserable. Come on. Why wouldn’t you wanna save money? We went to this bar in St. Louis and two people used their $150 Chase credits.
We had $300 worth of food. You chipped in for some drinks as well. That was a lot of fun. I think it was overkill, though, as it ended up being too much food. Yeah, I felt- But better than too little. Yeah, it was incredible. It was crazy the amount of food. I was like, I found myself eating way after I was full can’t let it go to waste,” but it was a nice time. A hero’s feast, for sure. Absolutely.

And we have the first questions from Michael Trager. What was your coolest Rove booking? Perhaps based on the number of points earned, but more so a really neat place anywhere in the world Okay, I’m gonna cheat a little and say that I have two. The first one is on Rove miles earned, and it was in last year.
I was going to Chicago Seminars to be a speaker, and the Hyatt had already booked out, so I ended up booking on Rove and getting a hotel for, I wanna say 54 Rove miles per dollar spent, and that was incredible.
In terms of redemptions, I keep telling this story, but it’s just because I think it really shows how valuable it is.
I used my Rove miles for a hotel stay in the Maldives, and it was because I needed to… based on award flights, I arrived to the Maldives a day early as you do, right? ‘Cause you’re positioning and you’re flipping around based on space. And so I got there a day early, and I didn’t wanna stay in Malé.
[00:15:00] Malé is like a, it’s a proper city. It’s not beach vibes. It’s not resort-like. So I went on Rove and I took a look. In terms of redemptions for using Rove miles, it does really well on boutique stays, right? And obviously loyalty eligible and the ability to have your hotel elite status and stuff, whatever, that’s fine too.
But in terms of boutique stays, there are so many places in the world that you’re limited by if you’re only gonna stay at a Marriott or you’re only gonna stay at a Hyatt. And I say this as an elite status snob. But I really appreciated that I was able to book a hotel or a resort that was a 10-minute speedboat from the airport in Malé, the capital.
It was a proper resort. I had a beach villa. It was very nice. And I was able to redeem my Rove miles at, I think it was something like three cents per mile. So a really good value, a boutique stay. I got to feel like I was on vacation early, and I didn’t have to pay cash, and that was really valuable for me 54x, that’s a really good earn rate, and nice to have that flexibility and stay that night before.
Yeah, absolutely. And [00:16:00] also, I’m not sure if this is an inside joke, but he asks her- Is it about Prosecco? Ask her if she prefers Prosecco instead of champagne. If I were to have any type of alcohol consumption, it would have to be lukewarm, day-old California Prosecco, bottom shelf, but only from a red Solo cup.
And exclusively. That’s me. This happened at a Rove meetup? No, God, no. It’s just an ongoing joke ’cause he’s really into champagne, and I keep joking that I have no standards. So hot, old sparkling wine in a red plastic cup for me. All right. That’ll do. Yeah. And finally, from Michael, which Rove meetup had the coolest suite?
We’ve had two really cool ones. One was with Michael. He does Zorkfest, in case anybody doesn’t know. He’s the genius behind it. That was in December, and he allowed us to use his bi-level penthouse suite for a Rove meetup, which was insane. It was something [00:17:00] like 60, 65 people.
We had a fantastic time. I did serve some champagne, only to him. And that was really cool. It was like these panoramic views out into Las Vegas. And then I had another one that we did in Orlando in February, and there were a lot of people, again like the Vegas one. It was like 60, 65 people, and so I ended up doing a mansion rather than a suite in order to accommodate everybody.
And I picked it because I am a child at heart, and it had a bowling alley and an arcade, a movie theater and stuff like that, and that was really cool too. And the suite with Michael, that was at M Resort. That was a different property. That was the first time I was ever there.
I liked it. I didn’t love the distance from the strip but we did it ride sharing so that it was okay for Ubers. We all just pitched in with our Uber credits, and that turned out okay. Yes. And the main idea of the venue was that they accommodated us very well, and it had the space.
Yeah. And strip prices for event space have gone up. Yeah, it was definitely a better fit. It felt [00:18:00] higher end We have questions from Mario, listener of the show, who asks: Will you be adding eBay at any point to the Rove shopping portal?
We don’t usually do single merchant integrations just because it’s a lot of labor and resources to try and do that. That said, we do work with, multiple different organizations, for lack of a better word. And we do get new merchants all the time. So I wouldn’t rule it out, but it’s not gonna be us who are doing it.
Any ways to stack Rove with eBay? I’m trying to think, if you paid with PayPal you would get a credit, but that doesn’t really work with eBay. I can’t think of anything off the top of my head, unless- You have giftcards.com- Yeah
on Rove, although the rates have gone down with that, but it’s not your fault. Maybe you can buy- Yeah … pre-paids through giftcards.com, or maybe giftcards.com has the eBay gift cards? Yeah. I would check that out. Unless I can think of something really off the wall, that would be my suggestion is to, yeah, check out the giftcards.com [00:19:00] through Rove shopping.
And you have said that Rove plans on doing in-store bonuses. So maybe that can be a thing for the future if you were to go to certain grocery stores that might be on Rove, and then get the eBay gift cards there. Yeah, absolutely. In-store shopping and dining as well. Coming soon. Yes. And this is a question from me: Can you address what’s been going on with giftcards.com that the rate has gone down?
That was a very unwelcome surprise to us, and I’m sure everybody who uses Rove. Giftcards.com just unilaterally slashed rates for all of its affiliate networks. If you go on SaveWise or Cashback Monitor, you’ll see most of the rates have dropped across the board, and anybody who has a higher rate is propping it up themselves.
Giftcards.com works with a very narrow margin, and so it just didn’t make sense for them anymore to keep paying out all of these affiliates- And a final question from Mario, “Can we get a sneak peek into any upcoming transfer partners [00:20:00] or bonuses?”
I can’t tell you guys what’s or who is coming but I can say to keep a very near eye out for things that are coming very soon. I hope that was circumspect enough, but I hope that you also picked up- … what I was putting down. Maybe June, early June, mid June? We shall see, Justin. All right. Any other features coming soon besides the dining and the in-store?
A revamped version of the app which is currently in beta, so a second beta test run is coming, and that should hopefully be launch-launched July. So it’s been held up a little bit as we wait for some final approvals to come through. There’s also a new look to it. I don’t have an iPhone do you have an i- you don’t have, you don’t have an iPhone, do you?
Android. Android, yeah. Yeah, you said. I don’t know. They changed up the look of the iPhone app, so that will be coming through. And then hopefully the Android app will be in beta soon as [00:21:00] well. The hold up for Android is that we don’t have any Android testers. It’s me, I’m the only person on the team with an Android.
We did get a new designer who walked in with an Android and then promptly told everyone he was gonna be switching to iPhone. I had an ally for 35 seconds- Oh … and that was it. The Android app is meant to come out at the same time, it’s not in beta yet because we don’t have enough testing done on it.
Gotta get that phone army going. I know. I actually, I have two phones. I was like, “I’ll do it,” “I’ll break it if you want me to break it.” Any other things to share with listeners? It’s a big summer. It’s not like the traveler’s dilemma, it’s like the loyalty program dilemma in the best way.
And I made a very cryptic post up on the Rove Insiders group. I was trying to give everybody a heads-up that I think that people should start growing lots of Rove miles. Maybe this It Pays To Chase More Rove Miles promo is a good way to do it. But I would say to do that in anticipation of things coming all throughout the summer
And if someone’s [00:22:00] listening and they haven’t yet signed up for Rove, they’ve heard the episodes, they’ve listened this long- what’s some encouragement that you can give people to sign up? I would suggest people to use your referral offer because they get free bonus miles for doing so. And then if they want to, Justin, when we did your meetup with the Hurdy Gurdy meetup, I gave out free bonus miles for everybody who came, so I would suggest that they do that as well.
Come be a patron to you because you provide a platform, for me to talk to you about cool stuff and, I really appreciate the support. So I would say that, use your referral and come to your meetups. And then, yeah if you haven’t dived in, now’s the time to do it because we’ve got that hotel bonus as well.
I think the hotel end of it is appealing. Especially if you’re going to a place that doesn’t have that Hillton, that Hyatt or wherever you’re normally going to, being able to use those Rove miles that you’re earning through the online shopping, through referrals, through other ways, through going to events, I think that’s a big appeal of Rove.
Yeah, I agree. There’s a lot of room [00:23:00] for loyalty-eligible bookings, which, like I said, allow you to utilize your elite status and still earn Rove miles. But the shining star of Rove, in my opinion, is our Rove rate with, like those boutiques, or even just a Marriott booked not loyalty eligible, ’cause we have, really fantastic earn rates and they’re unprecedented in terms of what you can, earn on your stays and then transfer to partners.
We say up to 25x. We also have the ability to do miles boosts for an extra 10x. And then all of our partners, with the exception of Accor, all of our partners are one-to-one, and we’ve got some amazing partners. We’ve got JAL, we’ve got Flying Blue, we’ve got Cathay, we’ve got SAS EuroBonus, we’ve got Air India, like really unique ones and really amazing ones as well.
And you also mentioned that Rove codes as hotels but not directly booking through the hotels, and you could use something like Venture points or miles to offset- … the travel purchases, and this might work with other cards as well. Yeah. If you do a [00:24:00] flight through Rove or if you do a Rove rate, not the loyalty eligible but Rove rate, then we are the merchant of record and we do, we code as hotels.
You could do something like the Venture. The Bank of America Travel Premium Rewards travel card also lets you do it, and that one might have a better earn rate if you’re a part of their preferred rewards program. It’s something like 3.6% back, and then you can still redeem your points against your purchases at a rate of one cent per point.
Otherwise, the Capital One Venture or the Venture X will get you 2X Capital One miles, which are transferable. And then you can redeem them at a rate of one cent per mile. That’s a really good way to wipe away all of your costs, and that’s actually a really good point that you make, Justin, because I get a lot of people asking me “Hey, I actually don’t wanna spend any money.
How do I make this cost me net zero on a credit card sign-up bonus?” I don’t know if it’s necessarily the best redemption, but it is a decent redemption to make zero costs. You mean all travel can’t be completely free? Yes. We’re working on it. We’ve tossed so many ideas back and forth to try and [00:25:00] even eliminate taxes and fees. That’d be pretty cool.
