Make money, save money, and take advantage of great deals. Thanks for joining me for today’s episode, A very special in-person video at Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor with Pari Kim from the Netflix show Love on the Spectrum. Welcome.

Pari Kim: Thank you so much for having me, Justin. I’m really excited to be here.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, thanks for coming out. We’re here at the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor Recording in person. So you took the T to get here? The MBTA?

Pari Kim: I sure did. Yeah.

Pari Kim: Because we all know I’m not driving in Boston. Ew!

Justin Vacula: It was the blue line.

Pari Kim: Yes. So I had to do red and then transferred. I decided to do orange to blue ’cause you could do orange or green. I just felt like doing orange. But then, yeah, blue line.

Justin Vacula: Alright, cool. And for some listeners that don’t know about you. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Pari Kim: Oh, yes. [00:01:00] So I’m Pari. I’m 23 years old.

I currently live in the greater Boston area. I love trains and princesses so much. They’re my special interests and oh my gosh, the public transit system here in Boston is, there’s opened up so much freedom for me. Like I don’t have to wait for anyone to drive me or a rely and them. It’s like I can just go wherever on buses and trains and.

Explore all parts of the city and like the elder areas. It’s like, it’s just so amazing. I have never had this freedom and independence back in York, Maine where I grew up.

Justin Vacula: And you’re representing Norfolk Southern today. They sent you some merchandise?

Pari Kim: Yes, and I did unboxing review. I also have some stuff from the down or I thinks on its way, and I got, um, commuter rail stuff that I need to open up and review.

Justin Vacula: Lots of support. Yeah. So I contacted you on Instagram. You were announced to be on season three of the Netflix show. Yes. And you quickly went from maybe seven K followers to [00:02:00] now 136,000. I can’t believe

Pari Kim: it. It’s been such a crazy journey. Oh my gosh. It’s like, wow, I just blew up.

Justin Vacula: Leanne Rimes was a recent follow.

Yeah,

Pari Kim: she followed me today. I was like, oh my God. No way.

Justin Vacula: That is so

Pari Kim: crazy. Yeah.

Justin Vacula: The character actor for Twilight Sparkle from Little Pony Tower Strong. Yeah. Yeah.

Pari Kim: We also got, oh, Amy Schumer, Haley Kyoko, and then some big brands like Crocs, a Museum of Fine Arts, Netflix. And even some railroads like Norfolk Southern MVTA themselves, the commuter out the down Eastern now Amtrak, St.

Watkins and Amtrak, Virginia Follow. Oh, tree Met and now, and the Ace train. But I’m waiting for the main Amtrak as

Justin Vacula: well. Yes. We’ll work on that today. Yay. Hopefully so. But a lot of positives on Instagram. Yes. You’re at Purple Princess Pari. That’s right. PPP. Lots of reels, lots of images.

Pari Kim: Oh yes. I’m very active on social media.

It’s like [00:03:00] I post there a lot, so like fans can always get new stuff and they’re hungry for my content.

Justin Vacula: I think you were so successful that you got an action block from Instagram. Yes. They, they thought you. Purchased followers, even though it’s organic growth.

Pari Kim: Yeah, it was crazy. I actually got two of them.

It was like I had to wait a week. It was so annoying. It felt like forever. It’s like you can’t follow anyone like post com, and it was like, try again later. Like you’re, you’re violated the guidelines as we know this. Like you’re using a search to help you get followers and like, so this goes against the community guidelines?

Yes. And like, tell us if we made a mistake and I clicked report so many times, but it didn’t do anything. I even like send an email and it report with in the app and it didn’t work.

Justin Vacula: I think it was a lifetime achievement award. So much success. They thought you were buying followers, so I should be

Pari Kim: flattered.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well now I’m verifying. Now I’m not having the problem, so I wonder if that helped with it. ’cause they trust me now and [00:04:00] know like with all the new sources probably.

Justin Vacula: And they auto verified you. You didn’t even have to pay for it.

Pari Kim: Yeah, I think it Netflix might’ve helped ’cause of a PR team.

They said they were like working on it. So do you think maybe they got in contact with Meta and they must have done it from there and ’cause one night the blue check mark just appeared all of a sudden out of nowhere I was freaking out. I still can’t believe it’s there. It feels like, oh my God.

Justin Vacula: That’s really good.

So lots of success there. You’ve gotten past the war on happiness and now you’re free on Instagram. You’re free from the Zuckerberg Jail.

Pari Kim: Yep. Oh yes. Free from the confines of it.

Justin Vacula: Yeah. There was the uh, south Park episode. You cannot beat my style. I am unblockable. You cannot block me.

Pari Kim: That was funny.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, they had some fun with him, of course.

And you recently met the mayor of Boston, right?

Pari Kim: Yes, I did.

Justin Vacula: How was that?

Pari Kim: Oh, that was amazing. I was like so starstruck and she had her new baby with her. It was like, oh my god. So cute. It [00:05:00] was so funny. She even mentioned like that they had to change her onesie ’cause she had a little poop explosion. Change it to purple.

It was just so cute. Oh my God.

Justin Vacula: Yeah. Yeah. Great experience. It was a training facility that used to be an active rail, right?

Pari Kim: Yes. In or they said, or a playground for Paris,

Justin Vacula: you I

Pari Kim: to put it from as match year said,

Justin Vacula: you said there, there was so, so much success.

Pari Kim: Yes. Oh my God. They really gave me like the best day ever and I even got a little action figure made of my self.

She to wicked joyful for making those. They’re really talented.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, I saw that. I thought that was an AI thing. We had the trend going. Yeah, the statue pt. But that was real. And then he made real

Pari Kim: ones, I think he made some of, of some of the other cast members and he’s working on Aino one ’cause she requests and he is like, for you, I’ll make one.

Justin Vacula: Oh, nice. Really nice of them. So lots of support from businesses, brands, the MBTA recognizing you.

Pari Kim: Yes.

Justin Vacula: And [00:06:00] part of being here today, we’re hoping that you get recognized by Amtrak. Yes. Is you’d like to be an ambassador, maybe work with the social media team with them? Yeah,

Pari Kim: that would be a dream. I feel like I’ve a lot to bring to the table and I really hope they can see that and my potential and passion for them.

Justin Vacula: All the ps. Yeah. Potential and passion.

Pari Kim: Potential passion.

Justin Vacula: And you’ve had a lot of mascot ideas for Amtrak as well.

Pari Kim: Yes, I have Amtrak princesses, so ones that like represent different roots. I have an Acela princess, Northeast Regional, down Easter, and I wanna make more for like all the roots I’ve made, like color, my own custom color scheme, palettes for all the different routes they had.

Like I went on the website and went from A to Z

Justin Vacula: fun, Amtrak to frog.

Pari Kim: Yep. I also have, he, he’s my stuffed, all I got from a friend. During, I forget it was, I think it was, yeah, Christmas from Build A Bear and he, and the birth certificate, he said, Amtrak the Frog, but. It was no ordinary fraud ’cause he added a special feature when you squeeze [00:07:00] the right hand.

He makes train. Sounds like actual cell. That’s nice sounds in Delta. He’s special and I got him a suit and shoes and now he also has a Amtrak land yard given to me by one of the Amtrak engineers. So he looks like the real deal now.

Justin Vacula: Ah, maybe it’ll be an official mascot one day.

Pari Kim: I love that. Should that’d be really nice.

Yep.

Justin Vacula: And you got contacted by some of the regional Amtrak locations, correct? Yes.

Pari Kim: Yeah. The down Easter wants me to be an influencer and I’d love to do that. I think they’re working on that. Hopefully sometime this summer I can do that. And I’m just so thrilled and honored. I. Because they’re the national.

I’ve had mixed luck, like they used to respond more to me, but then one day they stopped and I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s like I got sad ’cause they’ve been there for me and meant so much for me. I do anything to get that back. So I’m really hoping they’ll see me again.

Justin Vacula: Hopefully back on track.

Pari Kim: Yep. Get back on track. I know there’s changes [00:08:00] like the CEO e stepped down and all sorts of other political things we don’t have to get into, but I’m really hoping Yeah, they will get back on track before we know.

Justin Vacula: That’ll be nice

Pari Kim: because it is the future. It’s like this world. We need to look for a more like sustainable future.

As people take more public transit, like less carbon emissions, they really are like they then to look to, so it’s like very good to promote them

Justin Vacula: and for listeners who have it, road Amtrak or trains very much. What would you suggest to them? What would be some reasons they would like to ride Amtrak?

Pari Kim: So many.

Well, it’s fun. You don’t have to worry about driving, getting stuck in traffic at rush hour. You can relax. The seats are comfy. You get snacks, drinks, look out the window, they’ll views. Do whatever you want, right? Read a book list to music, draw. Do your own. Yeah. Projects also via adventures and the speed.

Like some of the trains go really fast, like the Acela can go up [00:09:00] to 150 miles an hour and then the new Ave Liberty’s coming in, I think can go up to 160 miles an hour though. That just feels so nice.

Justin Vacula: Nice. And you said it, it’s provided a great deal of comfort to you. Yes. As while riding the trains

Pari Kim: It has.

And like talking to them is, their old social media team is so sweet. And they like, we love you, Pari. And they even defended me against some of the bullies.

Justin Vacula: Right, right. But now you have lots of supporters. Of course,

Pari Kim: yes. Other companies too, like them, b, TA and L. Lots of friends and family. Like even Amy Schumer defended me against the bullies too.

Justin Vacula: Yeah. And and Taylor Swift, do you really like it? Yes. As well. She’d recommend shaking it off, right? Yes. It would be a dream to

Pari Kim: meet her, like ride a train with her. Yes. She’s been my favorite singer ever since I was little, so it’d be a dream come true if she followed me.

Justin Vacula: Nice. That’s a possibility. As well as.

You’re continuing to grow. Two 136,000.

Pari Kim: I can’t believe it. Quite

Justin Vacula: the increase. I have these paper notes and I have to, [00:10:00] uh, scribble an update on things. Yeah,

Pari Kim: it’s really crazy. Yeah. How fast. It’s like every time fresh, there’s something new, like new followers, likes to, comments come boring. And like I said, I’m adding a train mode of comments.

Justin Vacula: Yes. Even

Pari Kim: my cam yells like there’s so many coming in. They had to put a limit on the number of requests ’cause they expired, some expire soon. It’s like, I wanna be able to keep up with them so I don’t miss any. And that’s, and I have something to do later tonight.

Justin Vacula: That’s cameo.com so people can request a pep talk, a birthday greeting.

Yes. Other things with you.

Pari Kim: Yep. There’s an app too. But when you do, when you book on the website, I think I get more of the profit and it’s better to do that. The links in the bio on my. Instagram.

Justin Vacula: Yeah. That’s really nice. So other ways to monetize.

Pari Kim: Yeah, it’s been helping. Uh, oh my gosh. I’ve already been making, yeah.

Some good bucks from it.

Justin Vacula: Yep. And. Your cover of the Abby Song also got a million views, I think, on a radio. Yes.

Pari Kim: I cannot [00:11:00] believe I was freaking out. I opened up my TikTok and I start What Million? I’m like, oh my gosh. Yeah. One night after acapella group, I was waiting for my bus and I just decided to sing.

I just wanted to sing something and I decide why not try hovering. Her new Abby’s new son boyfriend forever. But I made my own version and I changed boyfriend to girlfriend since we all know I have a girlfriend,

Justin Vacula: right?

Pari Kim: And I decide to post on TikTok and see, be like, Hey, well maybe people will like this.

So I did it and I never thought would blow up to what it is now. I’m just so honored. People love it.

Justin Vacula: Yeah. Lots of success. And you had a Amtrak inspired song from Wicked Defying Gravity.

Pari Kim: Yes. You

Justin Vacula: made some custom lyrics with that too.

Pari Kim: Oh, yes. I did my own version, like it’s time to try riding on Amtrak.

Because it just really reflects my love and passion for them. Enthusiasm. Like when I want something, I don’t give up. I keep talking about it. Even if fathers think it’s annoying, it’s like [00:12:00] I, it’s meant to be. I just have to keep persevering. It’s, I’ve always been the type who believes in is a glass half full fulltime person.

Like never gives up. Like I always say like, if you have a dream, go for it. Just keep pushing. And don’t let go until you reach it.

Justin Vacula: Like the little engine that could.

Pari Kim: Exactly. I think I can. I think I can. ’cause it’s like, ’cause if you keep going you can get there and don’t listen to the doubt. You just have to believe in yourself.

’cause if you believe you can, you will get there.

Justin Vacula: Right. And you’ve had a lot of success already. And it’s. April 2nd was the release of the show. And you’re Yes. Now just a few weeks after that. Yeah. So who knows what the future can hold.

Pari Kim: I know I’m already growing at this rate, and so my brands and celebrities falling and I’ve even gone like free products and some are offering free membership or want me to come and do custom tours or makeovers.

It’s like, oh my

Justin Vacula: God. And you went to Los Angeles as well? Yes. They had a live event there.

Pari Kim: The premiere for it where you got to see part of the first episode before it [00:13:00] aired. It was. So fun. That was very quick. Yeah. Netflix like booked a flight in hotel for us, which was so nice. We even got like personal drivers from like each place, the hotel to the building and I got to meet all the other main participants of Love on the Spectrum.

Nice. For this season, they’re all so nice and we connected instantly.

Justin Vacula: Yes. You had a picture with Madison and Danny as well.

Pari Kim: Yes. Oh, well, yes. Oh, I think the one you’re thinking, oh yeah, there’s ones Abby and Danny where I’m wearing that she, or color dress. But yeah, I did get some with Madison too and the others.

Justin Vacula: Lots of connections. Very good. Yes. I

Pari Kim: just love, and like we all follow each other now. We’re a big family. There’s even group Instagram chats and texts that we’re in, like for everyone on Love on the spectrum.

Justin Vacula: That’s really good. So lots of positivity and good community through that.

Pari Kim: Yes, I’m just honored to have them.

Okay.

Justin Vacula: Nice, nice. And what do you like about [00:14:00] Amtrak compared to flying? You recently said you flew out to Los Angeles. How was that experience flying versus the experiences you’ve had on trains?

Pari Kim: So I’m flying. I know it’s like you can get there faster. And I do like, they have like the in flight entertainment, like movies, or at least what I went on Delta, you know, all airlines are different.

Like taking off feels fun, but it’s like. You also have like the cramped seats and like middle seats and just less room in the bathrooms are smaller and they’re not as good for the planet. So I feel like yeah, we’ve trained to get more space to sit back. You’re more comfortable and. Yeah, it’s greener and it’s just, I feel like it’s like more relaxing and you can actually see like the views outside and get like service.

’cause they have wifi, but it wasn’t really working for me when I was on the plane.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, not as reliable. And

Pari Kim: it’s only so many different things you can see. Like when you get up high, just clouds and there’s turbulence. Like, don’t get me wrong, planes are fun. But yeah, trains I just think are [00:15:00] the best.

Justin Vacula: What was the longest train ride that you were on?

Pari Kim: The longest train rides I’ve been on are when I go from Boston to Philly to visit my cousins, and I just recently vi visited them not too long ago in March.

Justin Vacula: And how, how many hours do you think that was?

Pari Kim: I think that’s like probably, I’d say like six or six and a half hours. Okay. It’s a nice, not too bad long ride though.

But yes, I can get that Amtrak time and rack up those reward points.

Justin Vacula: Yes. The Amtrak Guest Rewards Program. Yes. Yes. I had a past podcast guest, we were talking about that Decker, so he had some questions we’ll get into a little bit later in the show. He took a ride out to Chicago. Oh, that was a really long one.

I

Pari Kim: wanna go there. That’s my bucket list. I really wanna visit Chicago too and ride their metros. I heard they have a pink line.

Justin Vacula: Ooh, that would be really

Pari Kim: cool.

Justin Vacula: Nice. You made memorable connections or friendships while riding the trains?

Pari Kim: Yes. I have some cutest memories [00:16:00] are, when I first went to Phil, its last year.

I remember meeting this boy who was very young and he had autism, and we also spoke to his mom and she was saying she had like. Four kids on the spectrum and he was so smart and naming all the different kinds of trains. And we even drew our own custom trains together and he said his was gonna go like million miles an hour and put like an observation car and stuff.

It was the cutest. I just loved it.

Justin Vacula: Nice. So good connections. And you have of course, the. Local T fan club as well?

Pari Kim: Yes. My MBTA fan club is Instagram based. It’s a group chat that people can join. We have had some members in the past that turned out to cause drama, but now we’re trying to keep it. Yeah, more.

Yes, selective. So people are respectful. But yes, we have new members we added in who want to join. I already have so many requests saying I wanna join the rail fan club. So

Justin Vacula: Nice. Nice. And you’ve rebranded your YouTube channel, so you [00:17:00] recently added some content to that as well.

Pari Kim: Yes, because it used to be called Cookies Swirl B 3 9 4 2.

I think I remember I used to watch this YouTuber called Cookie Swirl C, and for some reason I think I just want to change a letter and do that, but it’s like now Purple Princess Paris is like my name on almost all my social media. So I gotta be less confusing and it makes sense to just have them all be consistent.

So now my YouTube’s just that.

Justin Vacula: Sure. And you’ve had some shorts, some longer videos? Yes.

Pari Kim: I’ll have Spotting

Justin Vacula: trains, the HO Shows Bunch.

Pari Kim: Yep.

Justin Vacula: And the train collection

Pari Kim: Yes. That you

Justin Vacula: have at home as well?

Pari Kim: Oh yes. That’s been growing too. I wanna get more. I know. The, the MBT gift shop in por square. Word maps already has the newer trains.

Al and I really wanna go get some.

Justin Vacula: Nice. And I recently went to Steamtown and got some things from there. There was this, uh, purple train here.

Pari Kim: I love it. Yes. Oh my God’s

Justin Vacula: perfect. It’s a bit of a train necklace.

Pari Kim: I love it. [00:18:00] Oh, it’s so pretty. Oh my gosh. Yeah.

Justin Vacula: Have you been there before in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Steamtown?

Pari Kim: Oh, I have not. I really would love to go there. It seems I’d be right up my alley.

Justin Vacula: All

Pari Kim: right. Oh my God, yes. And I really wanna see the, what is it? Is it the, um, the Strasburg Railroad? Is that what it is? In Pennsylvania with the steam trains? I really wanna see that someday. Yeah. And ride it, uh, the whistles.

I’ve seen videos. I’ve so beautiful. It’s like, oh my gosh.

Justin Vacula: Lots to see in the world.

Pari Kim: Yep. So many trains to ride. So many adventures to be had friends to be made. There’s so much more to discover.

Justin Vacula: Right, right. Lots of potential. You’ve mentioned maybe being an ambassador with Amtrak. What can you do as an ambassador to help them?

Pari Kim: Well, I would love to help promote their brand in public transit and trains, and I just feel like my enthusiasm is very contagious. I can get people excited about things and share my joy. In creativity, like to get people to write, like, come [00:19:00] ride with us. You are amazing in the songs. Like that’s

Justin Vacula: a good one.

That’s a good one.

Pari Kim: Thank you. Yeah, that’s kind of my catchphrase for them. Like I’ve Terrific for the t and I even have one for Septa Sational, and I need to make one for like MTA in New York.

Justin Vacula: Oh, that’s nice. So people definitely see the positivity. A lot of people have become trained fans. Yes. Because of your appearance on Love on the Spectrum, and then following you afterwards too.

Pari Kim: Yes. Even more people have been saying now they’re gonna give the T another chance, or they’ll think about differently. ’cause of me, and I know STEM BTA Instagram account gained more followers, so I hope I’m giving them some publicity. They deserve it.

Justin Vacula: Uh, that could be another one. You have the song Give Peace a chance.

Give TA chance. Oh

Pari Kim: yeah. All we are saying Y is give the TA chance.

Justin Vacula: There you go. There you go. That’s good.

Pari Kim: Thank you. So a lot

Justin Vacula: of spontaneity, a lot of creativity. That’s, that’s definitely good.

Pari Kim: Yes. I even asked songs I’ve written but haven’t published yet about them. BTA Amtrak. I love to on [00:20:00] Spotify someday.

Justin Vacula: Yeah. That’s great. And I, I shared there was the Patti Gerie song, find Me Some Pretty Girls. Oh, I love it.

Pari Kim: You changed the lyrics. That’s so cool. And

Justin Vacula: yeah, they say at Home By the Sea, but you can make it as home at home by the tea. It is because

Pari Kim: yeah, the tea’s closer to me than the Sea. Now you have to kind of go out more to Revere, like Boston Sea Port for the Sea, I feel like for where I am.

Yeah.

Justin Vacula: Right. So lots of opportunity is really cool.

Pari Kim: Yeah. Opportunity. Our guy, make the train puns.

Justin Vacula: Yep. Now that season three is finished with Love on the spectrum, what can people look forward to from you?

Pari Kim: Well, I’m gonna continue being my happy, joyful, self more trained content for sure. And also.

Occasionally I’ll post things on like my artwork. I have an art account too, but I use my main Instagram more. But I will put like some of my drawings and my princesses and animations on there, do like little [00:21:00] promos and commercials I make for Amtrak and MBTA Turnage people to ride them and probably more collabs and unboxing videos of all the free goodies I’m being sent.

Justin Vacula: Lots and lots of things. So

Pari Kim: yeah, there’ll be a lot more of that in like memories. From all my friendships and adventures I’ve had.

Justin Vacula: Yes. You had a compilation video of the year in review with the tee, with MBTA.

Pari Kim: Oh, yes. Well, I had like the best memories I put in all sorts of things like Amtrak, M-B-T-A-A Friend’s wedding, just like my best happiest moments into one video and then some inspirational quotes at the end, like even though it can be hard, and he tried to derail us like we never gave up and we kept chugging along.

Justin Vacula: Right, right. I like it.

Pari Kim: There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. I feel like you just gotta find it. Sure. It’s there.

Justin Vacula: Absolutely. Especially with all the success you’ve been having.

Pari Kim: Yes. That’s why I’ve always been one to never give up. I’ve always believed in myself and I just know [00:22:00] it’s like, it may not be easy, but it’s not possible.

As long as possible, it can happen.

Justin Vacula: And you’re finishing college now as well, so just a little bit more of time.

Pari Kim: Yes. So I only have like three or two more weeks left of school. It’s crazy. I’m graduating, I’m gonna get. My bachelor’s degree in animation and motion media.

Justin Vacula: Nice. Nice. So lots of success.

Pari Kim: Yeah. I hope to use some of my artistic skills too for if I get to work for MBTA and Amtrak social media and marketing departments.

’cause I have like creative skills to

Justin Vacula: Yes. And showing the growth of your own Instagram and other social medias, Amtrak could surely benefit. From that as you’re doing something right to get all the likes and comments and follows? Yes. Well

Pari Kim: I feel like right now they have a lot of like Gen Z targeted brand and like cute memes and like kind of Rio YouTube Rio or TikTok kind of style pulse and funny things and yes, cat videos.

I feel like I could definitely do some of that. It’s fun and stuff and like songs or [00:23:00] parodies even like. To the tuna famous songs, but like Amtrak related. Oh yes,

Justin Vacula: absolutely.

Pari Kim: Yes. They’re characters to a mascots.

Justin Vacula: Yeah. Lots of ideas. Lots of possibilities. Yeah. So hopefully you’ll hear back from the main Amtrak account pretty soon.

I

Pari Kim: know, that’s what I’m hoping. I really hope soon. Hopefully our tracks will cross again instead of paths.

Justin Vacula: Yes, yes. I like it. Uh, it could be a, a turntable or a switch of the rails. Yes, definitely. And travel dreams. What are some other routes that you would like to take that you haven’t yet taken?

Pari Kim: Well for Amtrak, I know I really wanna go on the Coast Starlight route.

It just sounds really fun and I heard supposedly really beautiful and I think the California zep for like some of the most scenic route in the us. Also, I wanna do like the sleeper trains too, like overnight in a ette. ’cause I never got to do those before. And ride first class would be awesome at some point.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, for sure. The [00:24:00] Zephyr line, also a popular one I hear about.

Pari Kim: Yes, it is. I really wanna ride it.

Justin Vacula: A listener question from a listener. Monie. Yes. Who asked, have you gone on other transit systems, perhaps in New York or London?

Pari Kim: Um, I’ve been to New York. Yes, I’ve gone to on there. So the MTA, I’ve been on the subway, Metro north and the Long Island Railroad and even path, which I think connects New York and New Jersey.

Not London yet, but that’s on my bucket list. I heard they have the tube and it’s supposed to like really good. I hope to ride. That’s Sunday. I wanna ride international train systems too.

Justin Vacula: Yes, I’ll be flying out to Europe after this Boston trip. So some opportunities there as well. Yeah.

Pari Kim: That’s right.

Polling’s

Justin Vacula: coming up. That could be a possibility too.

Pari Kim: Oh wow. That’s so fun. Yeah. I can’t wait to see how that is. Yeah, definitely. Post photos and videos.

Justin Vacula: Oh, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. It’s gonna be fun.

Pari Kim: Cool.

Justin Vacula: Alright, and another question, this is from Decker who [00:25:00] is on for the Amtrak episode. He asked, you have a lot of catchphrases with the MBTA.

Do you have some more with Amtrak maybe that we haven’t mentioned so far in the discussion? Yes.

Pari Kim: Well I think I mentioned Amaz like mm-hmm. Amazing. But am ’cause Amtrak also AMT stick. I think my friend Robert came up with that one, so I have to give him credit. So yeah, those are some Amtrak ones I made up.

Justin Vacula: And another question, do you ride the tea daily?

Pari Kim: Yes, I do. Pretty much, yeah. It’s part of my routine. Like all the days I have school, I have to take it to get there. ’cause it would be too long to just walk.

Justin Vacula: Yes. And the, the, the one liner driving in Boston. Ew.

Pari Kim: Yeah. Who wants to drive in Boston? Seriously. I mean, I really don’t get why people wanna drive in Boston.

It must be really brave and tough if they’re doing it. It just, it just seems like more hassle than it’s worth. Like why, why don’t you wanna save yourself that. Stress and time,

Justin Vacula: you’re in a good location and just hop on the T and get to Leslie, right? [00:26:00]

Pari Kim: Yes, I am. Yeah. I’m lucky that I have public transit right near me.

There’s a bus that comes to my house, though it doesn’t always come frequently, but it is helpful when I get on. There’s some nearby if I miss it, like other alternative buses. And then once I get to Harvard, get on the red line in, you’re on Porter though. I can also take my bus sometimes to Belmont and get on the commuter rail, the Fitchburg.

Line and then get to Porter from there.

Justin Vacula: Nice. Lots of options.

Pari Kim: Yes. I love having the choices.

Justin Vacula: And you’ve mentioned you, you often feel relaxed and supported while riding the trains too. Yeah. So that’s

Pari Kim: a nice thing. I just love it. It’s something about the Ralph, the rails it, the feeling just going outside. I love crossing the Longfellow Bridge over the Charles River.

It’s like you officially entered Boston, you see the Prudential building? Yeah. And the sickle sign, so iconic. And then the Museum of Science, and I think the Zaum Bridge on the other side.

Justin Vacula: And we got some nice views here of [00:27:00] the harbor area at this Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor. Yes. I love

Pari Kim: it. There was a pretty sunset when I was just coming to get here.

It was like, oh, so relaxing. I just love Boston. It’s a great city.

Justin Vacula: Yep. And the Logan Airport too, that’s That’s often getting good reviews. Oh yes. JetBlue, I flew in ma JetBlue from Philadelphia.

Pari Kim: Oh, that’s so cool. How was that?

Justin Vacula: Yeah, it was really nice. Direct flight. Ooh, you ended up going with Delta, so that was probably a little bit more complicated out of Boston, but yeah, it happens.

Pari Kim: But yeah, it was really cool fun day about my flight going to la. We actually end up on the same plane as James and his girlfriend Shelly from Love on the Spectrum. So that was cool that we got to fly like with them, it was like, oh, okay. Oh God. They sat in front of us. You

Justin Vacula: had the layover. It just happened to be that same plane.

Pari Kim: Yeah, that’s luck. It’s like, talk about luck. Oh, luck on

Justin Vacula: the spectrum. Yep.

Pari Kim: Back on track. Yeah, back on track. Derailed.

Justin Vacula: And you’ve had some meetups on the trains too with the rail fans, with your local [00:28:00] fan club?

Pari Kim: Yes. We like to plan like different days where we go rail fans, certain areas and certain trains and we’ll ride certain lines and sometimes we’ll try to catch rare stuff and sometimes it just comes out of nowhere and it’s like, you can be very lucky ’cause there’s special heritage units that I love to find.

Justin Vacula: Nice. And you’ve gotten a lot of the horn shows where the drivers would be honking. Yes. So they have fun with that.

Pari Kim: That’s another goal of mine. I love getting the trains to blow their horns and they’ll do different sequences and some will even do a shave and a haircut. It goes, those are the best. And they’ll even once in a while, if you’re really lucky, you’ll get horn valves between different trains.

Like I’ve gone horn valves between Amtrak and commuter rail and. Like one commuter rail and another, so that’s always a lot of fun. I just love that. My day’s just always completely made when those things happen.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, a lot of fun. So the hobby has really morphed into something even more special?

Pari Kim: Yes. I just love it and get to be excited.

[00:29:00] Like everyone has their own style. Some people are more quiet while feeling trains. I just can’t help my excitement ’cause it just brings me so much joy. So it’s like, woo hoo. Yeah. It’s like I just gotta let that out. It’s my natural feeling

Justin Vacula: and people like that. Yes. You see a lot of the success.

Pari Kim: Yes. Yeah, I know I’ve had some people criticizing it, but it’s like I try to ignore that.

’cause we all know there’s more support than Hayden. Gotta focus on the positives.

Justin Vacula: That’s right. Absolutely. And a listener question, what was your last Amtrak ride?

Pari Kim: So my most recent Amtrak ride was to New London, Connecticut with some of my friends.

Justin Vacula: New London. So where did you go in New London?

Pari Kim: So once we got there, so station’s right at like the same terminal with the Crosstown ferries.

Those, I also take a lot to visit my relatives in Long Island, so I know that station. Uh, then when we got off, we explored, we also took a bus to this abandoned mall called the Crystal Mall. I’ve [00:30:00] never seen anything like it before, like it was. Almost like fully empty. It’s like a loft. Stores were closed and escalators weren’t working, but there was, oh my gosh, I was so delighted.

I saw there was, you know those little kitty rides that you like put coins in? Oh yeah. Yeah. There was little

Justin Vacula: horses or, yeah,

Pari Kim: well, believe it or not, there was a steam train one. It’s like, I know I’m not a little kid and I’m probably too big for it, but I just had to do it. I’m like. Hey, I just wanna do it.

You only live once. Why not? It’s fun. So yeah. Yeah. One of my friends put in the quarters and I rolled and it was fun. And there was like a button you could push your foot to blow the whistle. So I loved it. And it got cute pictures and I brought Amtrak the frog with me. Yeah, I just had fun. I felt like a child again.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, that’s good. And a lot of other adults, I just got back from Las Vegas, they also have interests that typically are thought of as. Younger interests like Barbie. You’ve posted about Barbie before? Yes. And the wrestler, Tiffany Stratton came out with this [00:31:00] big Barbie custom entrance at WrestleMania in front of 60,000 people.

Oh, that’s

Pari Kim: so exciting. Yeah, someone told me about it today. That’s amazing. Yeah. I love Barbies. I still have Barbie dolls. They’ve been a. Huge part of my childhood growing up, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with playing with them. It’s like people, self stuffed animals pluses is like, as long as it’s not hurting anyone, do what makes you happy.

It’s like, who cares about age? It’s just a number.

Justin Vacula: And in Atlantis. There was the Barbie boardwalk adventure. Oh my gosh. So, so that was a big part there. Really? Oh

Pari Kim: my God. I wanna go to that. Is that like a permanent thing or a limited time event?

Justin Vacula: Ooh, I think it’s a permanent part, but oh my

Pari Kim: gosh. I need to go there Some.

They open it at certain

Justin Vacula: times, but it’s still there. They have a big Barbie gift shop Barbie everywhere. Oh my God.

Pari Kim: The dream. I would be in heaven. I need to go there. Oh my God. Yes, definitely on my bucket list now. Yes,

Justin Vacula: possibly January of 2026. I’ll be meeting with some people there, so,

Pari Kim: oh my gosh, maybe That’d be so cool.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, Atlantis really, really nice place. [00:32:00]

Pari Kim: Yeah.

Justin Vacula: And do you have a favorite Amtrak trip that you’ve gone on?

Pari Kim: Ooh, that’s tough. Was a lot of them have been fun in different ways? Aren’t they? All have been memorable? I’d say. The one last year to Philly, when I met that boy with autism, that one was very memorable.

I also remember. One coming back from New London to Boston where I was eating like my leftovers from Thanksgiving and I had my gluten-free flowers, chocolate cake.

Justin Vacula: Nice. And

Pari Kim: that’s when the, the regular Amtrak account was still like keeping in touch with me. And they’re like, that looks so good. We wish we could have some.

And I said, I wish I could give it to you. And they’re like, but it’s not exact. You can’t exactly send brownies like through the mail. It was funny. Virtual

Justin Vacula: brownies. That would just

Pari Kim: made me laugh. But

Justin Vacula: yeah. That’s fun. So lots of memories on there, so that’s nice that you could have so much fun with it. Yeah, and I, because some people will just think of transportation as a means to an end.

I just want to get somewhere. But it’s so much more to you.

Pari Kim: Yeah. And you talk to people. [00:33:00] I love Chang with the conductors. A lot of them are really friendly and my most recent trip one even gave me a junior conductor pin, which is really cool.

Justin Vacula: Nice. Nice. Lots of collections. Lots of souvenirs. Oh,

Pari Kim: I have so much.

Oh, especially t merch. I have a lot of duplicates from different times, so I’m just so honored. It’s like more than you know what to do If I’m gonna have to do a video where I like review all my different stuff. I bet my fans will love that.

Justin Vacula: Yes, because the, the train collection, you had the unboxing videos.

For sure, but there’s probably so much more. Yeah. And people saw that inside of your room on the show, some of the signs that you’ve had. Yes. Some of the tea, the cups.

Pari Kim: Oh yeah. People love it. Yeah, people love my unboxing videos. I feel like they wanna see more of that.

Justin Vacula: You have the train station sign as well.

Pari Kim: Yeah, Paris Station is custom made. When I. Got to meet Philip Eng, I think it was for either the first or second time, and they went out and got me like a bunch of tea swag. It was just so nice. So special. So, and

Justin Vacula: that’s [00:34:00] the train daddy? That’s his nickname.

Pari Kim: Yeah. Train daddy. CEO of

Justin Vacula: MBTA. Yeah.

Pari Kim: Getting it back on track.

Well, for real, it’s really improving a lot. Like nothing’s perfect. I know there’s still a lot of work to be done, but you can tell there’s changes like the trains are much faster, stations have been bright and some are cleaner. New platforms have been built and are trying to make it more a DA accessible, like with the new Green Line trolley, they’ll all have low floor, so you don’t have to walk upstairs.

Justin Vacula: Nice. And that could be something with Amtrak too, is you’ve had some suggestions for improvement. They’re going in a different direction for sure. Yeah, but I’m literally and figuratively though sum

Pari Kim: up the, the roots parallel. But yeah, they then they veer off ’cause they’re national.

Justin Vacula: Yes. And the sunflower lanyards, that’s something that they could add.

You’ve been encouraging that. Yes.

Pari Kim: Oh, yes. Tina’s also a big advocate for that. ’cause not all disabilities are visible in science. People don’t understand, so it’ll be a great way to kind of like acknowledge that and then ask without like [00:35:00] intruding on their personal Yeah. Details. So whatever you feel comfortable sharing, but like, so people can accommodate that and companies too.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, so some constructive feedback that can be helpful for Amtrak for sure.

Pari Kim: Yeah, and another thing is the quiet cars, like I appreciate that they have those, but I think also they should have some where you can kind of let out your energy, like what I call like A DHD cards. You can stem like even some like fidget or sensory things and you can just kind of let out your, an energy without disturbing others to see the choice.

Justin Vacula: Dancing or something fun in there. Yeah.

Pari Kim: I’ve always been told I talk too loud and I don’t mean to, it’s just I don’t always realize when I am, I guess, I don’t know if it’s something with my brain or autism where it’s like the way I hear myself, it’s like it feels normal. But I guess to others sometimes they’re like, you’re yelling, but, and I’ve been told to quiet down, so that’s another reason why We’ll just want somewhere we can just Yeah.

Talk like however.

Justin Vacula: Yep. And we’ll, [00:36:00] we’ll hear from the listeners. I’m sure they’ll be happy to hear your voice.

Pari Kim: Awesome. Yeah. Well, here’s the funny thing, ’cause all my life I feel like I’ve been told to be quiet or like there’s, or even shut up sometimes. But now it’s like after the show I’m getting the opposite.

Like people are saying, well, you love your voice and love how she says her name in the accent or cadence. And people want me to do audio books and voiceovers and podcasts and they could listen to my voice for hours. I’m just, it makes me kind of emotional. ’cause I never thought like. People would just accept that part of me so much because they’re being used to being told to be quiet or not being able to be independent.

Like, I’m finally free from my cage. It’s like I can fly now.

Justin Vacula: Defying gravity. Exactly.

Pari Kim: Exactly. That’s what I feel like I’m doing.

Justin Vacula: Yeah, that’s a nice thing of getting out there in the world, meeting new people, having new connections, being open to experiences. So that’s something that travel definitely unlocks.

Pari Kim: Yeah, I love it. [00:37:00] ’cause it’s like. You wanna experience life, there’s so much out there. Don’t wanna just stay at home. Born and like now there the city, there’s always something going on. So it’s like I have the opposite problem from when I lived in York, like back in that town. Don’t get me on it. It was a lovely little town, but it’s like there’s only so much you could do there.

Like it didn’t have a lot of options. And I, a lot of days I’d be bored sitting at home or lazy on the couch. But now. I’m always out in a belt and I feel like I don’t always have enough time at home or to just relax or, yeah. Yeah. Talk to my mom and she said, I’m always rushing out on the rails. No shades her.

No, I love her. I’m just, I feel like I have so much going on, so I’ve got a balance, like family time, homework, real fan. I just wanna keep it all like give fair time to it all. But no, there’s so much to do and just. So many adventures. So that’s why I like to always go out a lot and ride the tea. It’s just so fun.

Justin Vacula: All the tea ventures.

Pari Kim: Exactly.

Justin Vacula: Yes. [00:38:00] Uh, it’s a good first world problem to have all the options, all the experiences. Yeah. It’s like it’s a nice thing actually.

Pari Kim: Yeah. And I even have sometimes issues or there’s multiple events going on at the same time, and I can only pick one. It’s like I can’t always get to everything, or I’ll have to be late till one if I do another.

It’s like you have to pick and chooses. There’s so much to do and. Not enough time.

Justin Vacula: Boredom is unacceptable. Yeah. Well, I’m not

Pari Kim: bored anymore that I’ve do too many things and I wanna get more things done, but I don’t have enough time.

Justin Vacula: That’s good. And ELA listener question from Decker about ela. Have you, have you rode any of the ELA cars before?

Pari Kim: Yes, I have. There. They’re a lot of fun. I noticed They do go, well, they go faster than the regionals. Though sometimes it feels like the same, ’cause like some parts they have to slow down, but when they go fast, like you can really feel it. It’s just so fun like a rollercoaster on rails. And I also love the announcement chimes are different, like the [00:39:00] PA chimes is.

For a salad. They have one that goes, do, do, do. Then they say, welcome aboard, antra Accella Express, and I have a toy, a cell trained that does that. I just love that. There’s something I just can’t get over about that chime. I just, it’s so catchy. I wish they all had it, but for some reason it’s only in a cell thing.

Ah. Yeah.

Justin Vacula: So that’s a special feature.

Pari Kim: Yeah. Plus they got like the curtains too that you can like pull over the window, which I think is cool. Just kind of steps it up and makes it look even nicer.

Justin Vacula: Nice. Another listener question from Decker, your train collection had the New York City car. Can you talk about that one?

Pari Kim: Yeah, I love that. So that kind of has a backstory behind it. So I remember when I was going to New York City with my friends, I think it was. Last summer I remember wanting that so badly and one of my friends had them and I was like, I wanna get that. And I was begging for them and I was like, [00:40:00] I wouldn’t stop until we got, so like they made that the first party go to the Grand Central gift shop.

And then when I had, I was so happy. And it’s actually comforted me too, like when I’m stressed and stuff, like I like to press the horn and do like. The announcements and the doors actually open and it says, attention platform Run Train Central’s now approaching. Please stand clear. The platform. It is so cute.

There’s people inside. It lights up. It’s like it’s a perfect thing. It’s so much fun. And like you have all the different things in one Lights and sounds, but you also have like the actual designs Nice. And looks pretty realistic. Like it feels like it’s made well and it’s actually affordable. It’s only like 14 bucks.

It’s like. That’s a good deal. ’cause I feel like a lot of mall trains are really expensive and it’s hard to find something like that just for that low price. That’s like a steal.

Justin Vacula: Nice. And that could be some constructive things you could do with Amtrak too, as maybe a voice actor for some of the [00:41:00] announcements.

Yes. I would

Pari Kim: love to, like, I love. The lady who Voices BSL, I think her name is Kelly Butcher. She’s really nice. Say she calls me on LinkedIn. I just love her voice. It’s very calm and refreshing. It’s like at the AM Cafe, we’re serving freshly boot Dunkin coughing, like, please speak in subdue tones in the quiet car.

I don’t notice something I like about it, like she’s perfect for it.

Justin Vacula: Yes, you have Stop and Shop in this area. I have Giant in Pennsylvania, giant

Pari Kim: 3, 5, 4 months. I can think of giants from like the fairy

Justin Vacula: tale. Oh yes, yes. They have the self checkouts, like, please swipe your card. Insert the bananas I the begging area.

Oh, I

Pari Kim: remember I used to work at Stop and Shop and I here like, welcome, like if you have a stop and shop card, like, tap here. I love all the things. And when they go do, do, do, do do, do B. Jason, please remember to take your re. Seen and like, please wait. Help is on the way.

Justin Vacula: Yes. So maybe your voice will [00:42:00] be in some of those in the future.

Pari Kim: Yeah. I don’t know if those ones are like real people or ai, but I always Ooh, have a fascination. I like to imitate the voices and I Yeah, can a perfect pitch. I feel like I can match, like the pitches, things are inside. I can know a key like. Door chimes and beeps are in like be beep, like that’s a G major.

That’s the Oh, nice. That’s the 1800 bombardi or red line cars are in. It’s a specific one that has that, and then others are indifferent keys. That one I just know off the top of my head. It’s always consistent.

Justin Vacula: Nice. So there’s a lot of reliability, that’s for sure.

Pari Kim: Yes, there is.

Justin Vacula: Have any upcoming events or plans that you can talk about recent, um, or upcoming?

Maybe meet and greets or special events you’ll be participating in?

Pari Kim: Ooh. Well, I mean, I do have some things I’m working on. Like I know I have some companies reach out and they wanna do like give me like a free like train ride or free [00:43:00] tour at the Museum of Fine Arts. And I love to do a meet and greet for fans.

Some they also, I’ve been asked to speak at like children’s schools for the kids that are like at the library though, that would be awesome to do something like a kind of q and a or. Speech and story time like that would be really cool. Something I’ve also been thinking of doing for a while is like coming as a princess, like I could be a trained princess or come or later a tea part with the kids, like dress him on my princess costumes and read a book and then do activities with them and sing or train dean crafts.

I think that would be so much fun.

Justin Vacula: Yes. I grew up in the Wilkesboro Scranton area and the mascot was Tux Penguin. For the Scranton Wilkesboro Penguins team and he would go to parades, children’s hospitals much more. Oh, that’s

Pari Kim: so cool. So maybe

Justin Vacula: that’s something for you too.

Pari Kim: Yeah, and I do do part-time princess parties at a company called Boston Party Solutions.

Though I haven’t been getting a lot, like during this time of year, I think in the summer they start ramping up [00:44:00] though I’ve been so busy with school. But like now, like once I graduate, I’ll, those might come up here and then I’m hoping I can get some of those. Those are a lot of fun. Like when you do.

Birthdays for kids in parades. I just love it. And they think you’re the real character. I just love bringing that magic into their life. And when they hug you, it’s the sweetest thing. That’s the best part. They’ll never forget that.

Justin Vacula: Nice. And that could be something for Amtrak in the future too, with maybe ma spots or, oh my god.

The

Pari Kim: celebration thing? Yeah. Me like a celebration, A cell on the cell. Oh, a celebration. Yes. Oh, see what I did there? Train pond.

Justin Vacula: That’s good. That’s good. Yeah. Alright. Anything else you’d like to add as we’re towards the end here?

Pari Kim: Well, I just want to thank everyone for listening and yeah, keep up with my journeys on Purple Princess Pari on all my social media.

So Facebook’s Pari Kim. But yeah, I have so much more coming, like my journey’s just getting started. This is only the beginning and [00:45:00] the future’s bright and I just can’t wait to see what the future holds in store for me and hope just more of my dreams will keep coming true and things will keep working out and I’ll find that.

Light at the end of the tunnel. Keep shining brighter than ever.

Justin Vacula: Just leaving the station.

Pari Kim: True, true. All board.

Justin Vacula: Nice. And Instagram at Purple Princess Pari? Yep. Facebook is just your name. P-A-R-I-K-I-M.

Pari Kim: Correct.

Justin Vacula: And cameo is another page of yours?

Pari Kim: Yes. Oh yeah. People can request videos. Yep. I’m active on that right now.

Since a lot have been coming in, it’s hard to keep up with them out. We did limit it to 20 per week, so. Right now if you want them, you better? Yeah, book them fast. They’re selling out quickly. Like last night I checked, there was only 15 more spots left, but what I love is it’s very customizable and flexible, so you can change it, turn it off for a week.

Put limits through 24 hour ones, raise your prices. But yes, if people want them, they should [00:46:00] book quickly. ’cause at least for the rest of this week, once they sell out, then they have to wait until the next week just to make things more manageable. But it’s so worth it. I just love making people’s days.

There’s just nothing better than seeing people happy and smile and you know, you’ve made a impact on their life. Like, yeah, hand print on their heart, like in Wicked.

Justin Vacula: Ooh, get in the line soon. The train is leaving the station. It is,

Pari Kim: right? Yep. Onboard the par train.

Justin Vacula: Yes. And you had the underground kingdom as well, you said?

Pari Kim: Yes. That’s what the T is to me, is a lot people think of subways and they’re like, ah, this grimmy dirty place. Like, ugh. But for me, I see it differently. I think adventure, freedom, it’s fun, you know, this whole new era to explore and so many secrets, so much history to it that people might not even realize.

It just, all right. I love that.

Justin Vacula: Any other social media pages or where people can connect?

Pari Kim: Yeah. Well, my tiktoks also Purple Princess Pari YouTube [00:47:00] channel. It’s the same LinkedIn. Ah, yes.

Justin Vacula: YouTube. Yes. So that’s under. Purple Princess Pari. There are a lot of Pari Kim’s, but other names. Yes. That you’re under the Purple Princess.

Pari Kim: Yeah, I like to stand. The reason why I like to use that, I just feel like it fits my brand. I’ve always thought princesses, purple’s my favorite color. It is my niche, so I just, I think it’s a catchy name and I think it’s more fun than just putting out my regular name. Though Facebook, I know it makes you do first and last, but yeah, I’m the ones where I can Purple Princess Paris’, my main hand.

Also, I feel like that’s kind of the easiest way for people to recognize my stuff.

Justin Vacula: You get to stand out.

Pari Kim: Yeah. I love it.

Justin Vacula: Alright, thanks for coming on.

Pari Kim: Thank you so much for having me. Have a terrific, amazing day.
